Overview: Veeco Instruments is currently seeking a Sr. Manager of Manufacturing Engineering located in Horsham, PA. This role will report to the Sr. Director of Manufacturing Operations and will be responsible for all manufacturing operations activities required to meet production demands, support R&D and new product introductions, and work closely with the supply chain and quality teams to meet cost, quality, and delivery goals for its products today and in the future. This is a demanding role that requires superb execution in a fast-paced challenging environment and exceptional leadership skills for organizational development. The Manager will establish a high-quality, continuous improvement culture, apply problem-solving tools such as 8D, implement value stream mapping/lean techniques, integrate value engineering/DFM concepts into the Product Life Cycle process, and work with the extended supply chain to bring high-quality products to market on an accelerated timeline and at best value and cost to the company. The successful candidate will be capable of managing numerous complex priorities simultaneously with a "hands-on" style. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop their team, building credibility cross-functionally and across the Ultratech product lines. Responsibilities:
- Lead a group of manufacturing engineers to drive business targets tied to safety, quality, delivery and cost
- Primary Manufacturing Operations interface with various teams on all aspects of manufacturing programs
- Overall responsibility for managing proposals, production planning, and execution of manufacturing programs, while monitoring and addressing all cost, schedule, performance, and quality issues
- Acts as the key point of contact for senior leadership on all contract and program-related matters
- Provides oversight and accountability for all related activities to ensure compliance with company objectives and obligations
- Ensure continuing compliance to all quality and safety standards
- Develop operations cost reduction roadmap and support supply chain with resources to achieve product cost targets
- Develop organization - training, mentoring, coaching, and leading the organization. Evaluate strengths and weaknesses and take action to ensure long-term health, productivity, and a high-performance culture. Create and execute a succession plan
- Support all aspects of new product introductions via the product life cycle management phase-gate process for release readiness and risk mitigation
- Be a progressive thinker and role model: enable efficiency-enhancing tools such as Lean manufacturing, cycle time reduction through automated test methods to easily detect/correct manufacturing issues, creation of SharePoint to disseminate good manufacturing practices, etc. are put in place
- Institutionalize continuous improvement using lean tools.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience with increasing responsibility in an Operations leadership role managing several aspects outlined above is required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Large scale (>$1million ASP), complex (>1000 line BOM), high mix, low volume semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing experience required
- Knowledge of SAP and MRP
- Experience developing proposals and managing program execution with a demonstrated ability to create, track and meet schedules
- Working knowledge of financial management including projects, process control, and budgets
- Experience in Manufacturing and/or Project Management
- Global supply chain and contract manufacturing experience is highly preferred
- Practical mindset relative to manufacturability operations and business processes
- Process-oriented, data-driven mindset for decision-making and driving quality into the product, whether manufactured in-house or through contract manufacturing partners and suppliers
- The individual should be a dynamic leader who will possess the essential characteristics of a "can-do" attitude, integrity, competitiveness, accountability, creativity, and teamwork
- Must have demonstrated the ability to build and develop a high-performing team through assessment, recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and developing others
- Design for Manufacturability training/experience a plus
- Experience managing and leading manufacturing change initiatives and ISO 9001and 14001 experience highly preferred
- Knowledge of Quality Management Techniques like Lean, Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma, 8D
The expected salary range for this position is $130,090.00-$164,780.35, plus a bonus opportunity.
