The program

The Australia Awards Global Support Mechanism (AAGSM) is a new initiative designed to enhance the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (DFAT) international scholarship program delivery by providing operational, technical and analytical services. The AAGSM consists of the Program Support Unit (PSU) - responsible for operational and technical services to DFAT and the scholarship delivery network, and the Research and Analytical Support Unit (RASU) - responsible for analytical and research services for international scholarship programs. Palladium delivers the AAGSM PSU and cooperates with DFAT to ensure effective functioning with the RASU.

The role

With the aim to enrich the experience of scholars and alumni, build leadership capability and linkages and place them at the center of service delivery across the scholarship lifecycle, the Scholar and Alumni Engagement Adviser will support high-quality and strategic scholar and alumni engagement by providing technical assistance and ongoing support to DFAT, country programs and institutions.

In this highly engaged and collaborative role you will:

  • Collaborate with DFAT update the global Australia Awards alumni engagement strategy outlining an expanded and more strategic and equitable approach to scholar and alumni engagement across the scholarship lifecycle and country programs.
  • Support development of the Global Communications and Public Diplomacy Strategy including approaches which celebrate and empower alumni as brand ambassadors.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and report on scholar and alumni engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with technical support advisers to ensure scholar and alumni activities maximises First Nations engagement, promotes gender equality, disability and social inclusion outcomes, maximises public diplomacy outreach and supports the analysis of global alumni outcomes.
  • Plan and design scholar events including but not limited to, welcome and farewell functions and bespoke thematic network and leadership events.
  • Lead on demand scholar and alumni engagement support to country programs including for example development and review of country level strategies, frameworks and plans, recruitment and activities and events.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and localised best practice on scholar and alumni engagement across country programs. Develop resources and facilitate peer-to-peer learning activities to promote learning, sharing and reflection on practice among members.

About you

With inspiring leadership qualities, and the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, you will possess:

  • Substantial experience in the field of international development, public diplomacy and/or stakeholder engagement, preferably within the international education sector.
  • Demonstrated capability in strategic alumni engagement within the development and/or international education sector is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated capability in leadership development and/or professional development programming is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated excellence in client management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills including cross-cultural experience and communication skills, professional writing skills and the ability to engage and support a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability in the collection and analysis of data to inform strategies, activities and reporting.
  • A working knowledge of mainstreaming gender equality, disability and social inclusion and First Nations engagement into program delivery
