The program

The Australia Awards Global Support Mechanism (AAGSM) is a new initiative designed to enhance the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (DFAT) international scholarship program delivery by providing operational, technical and analytical services. The AAGSM consists of the Program Support Unit (PSU) - responsible for operational and technical services to DFAT and the scholarship delivery network, and the Research and Analytical Support Unit (RASU) - responsible for analytical and research services for international scholarship programs. Palladium delivers the AAGSM PSU and cooperates with DFAT to ensure effective functioning with the RASU.

The role

As part of the communications and public diplomacy team, the Communications Adviser will provide high level, specialist and on-brand communications advice and support to DFAT and the scholarships program delivery network. As a communications specialist, you will draw on your expertise in providing high quality strategic and fit for purpose communications support services

You will:

  • Support development of the Global Communications and Public Diplomacy Strategy.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and report on global communications activities as outlined in work plan and identify opportunities for collaboration, efficiency and to deliver innovative approaches to delivering outcomes and strategic priorities.
  • Lead scholarship program brand management including enhancement and expansion of branding and style guidelines; and governance and quality control services to support understanding of guidelines.
  • Provide advice and support to the PSU and delivery network on global communications including digital communications strategies, content creation, publishing and analytics reporting for the website, social media and other communication activities (e.g. podcasts).
  • Lead on demand and specialised communications services to country programs to develop communications strategies, such as approaches to strategic alumni engagement.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and localised best practice on communications across country programs, develop resources and facilitate peer-to-peer learning activities, to promote learning, sharing and reflection on practice among members.

About you

With a passion and drive for the execution of high quality, creative and innovative communications, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations or another relevant field.
  • Senior-level experience in the field of communications, preferably within the university, international education or development sectors.
  • Significant skills in developing and executing successful communications strategies.
  • Leadership experience in brand management, adherence and quality control.
  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic digital communications across diverse stakeholders.
  • International scholarship program management and/or public diplomacy program experience is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in client management and stakeholder engagement. Excellent interpersonal and social skills including cross-cultural experience and communication skills.
  • Professional writing and editing skills with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.
