Slayden Constructors Inc. (SCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of MWH Constructors, Inc. (MWH), is searching for a Site Safety and Health Officer to support our Grants Pass Water Treatment plant project as well as other southern Oregon projects.

The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for implementing and managing all aspects of the safety program on heavy civil construction sites. This role ensures compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and project-specific requirements. The SSHO plays a key leadership role in promoting a strong safety culture, providing daily safety oversight, and ensuring all personnel operate in a safe and compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities



  • Lead and enforce the company's safety program and ensure compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of site-specific safety documentation, including Accident Prevention Plans (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
  • Coordinate and conduct site safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training sessions.
  • Conduct and document pre-planning safety meetings with each subcontractor representative to establish safety procedures prior to the subcontractor's activity on site
  • Perform daily and weekly jobsite safety inspections and audits; document findings and corrective actions.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and pre-task planning with subcontractors to ensure alignment with the safety program.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; prepare reports and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain all required safety documentation, including logs, reports, and inspection records.
  • Support project teams in preparing safety-related work plans, risk assessments, and submittals.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with project safety standards through regular engagement and evaluations.
  • Coach and mentor employees in alignment with the company's health and safety program and behavior-based safety culture.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety management platforms (e.g., Procore).
  • Ability to interact professionally across all levels of the organization and with external partners.


Qualifications



  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or related field - OR - 5 years of direct safety experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing safety on heavy civil construction projects (e.g., water/wastewater, bridge, marine, infrastructure).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (OSHA 500 preferred).
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • EM 385-1-1 Certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • CHST, CSP, or similar safety certification is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard recognition, injury management, and record keeping.
  • Familiarity with behavior-based safety programs and industrial hygiene is preferred.
  • Experience in self-performed construction environments, including excavation, concrete, and structural work.
