General Description
As an Equipment Operator with the Port Everglades Facilities Maintenance Division, you'll be at the forefront of keeping one of the nation's busiest seaports running smoothly. Operating a variety of heavy machinery-including tractors, front-end loaders, road rollers, bulldozers, tandem axle trucks, and aerial lifts-you'll take on essential maintenance and construction projects that keep Port Everglades safe and efficient. Your role goes beyond just operating equipment; you'll ensure its safe use, make necessary adjustments for each task, and work under the guidance of a supervisor who ensures top-quality results. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires one (1) year of operating heavy equipment related to the area of assignment or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License for duration of appointment.
Must secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Must secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment (if required).
Must secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.
Preferences
Lift bucket truck operator experience
Open trench safety experience and/or Certification
2 years experience operating heavy equipment, including but not limited to sweeper, skid loader, backhoe, trackhoe, dump truck, vacuum truck
Underground pipeline excavation experience
Drainage excavation project experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Transports construction equipment using a low bed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loading and unloading vehicles are required.
Underground pipeline excavation and drainage excavation projects.
Operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and backhoe digging shovel.
Operates tractor for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches.
Operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways.
May operate smaller earth-moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats.
Operates various types of aerial lifts
Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants, cooling systems, hydraulic systems and electrical systems.
Performs daily maintenance on equipment, such as applying lubricants.
Makes necessary minor adjustments to machine and fluid levels and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
Demonstrates knowledge of the operating characteristics of various public works equipment and vehicles used in maintenance
and construction.
Demonstrates the ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently and the ability to detect malfunctions while
operating heavy equipment.
Performs other work as required.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Able to work outside of regular scheduled work hours, as needed.
