Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent hybrid opportunity for a Business Development Specialist based in our Houston or Washington DC office.

The Opportunity: We are seeking a dynamic BD Support Specialist to join our BD Operations team. This role supports high-impact campaigns and strategic go-to-market initiatives aligned with the firm's sector-focused strategy. The ideal candidate is an organized, proactive problem solver with a team-first attitude and a keen desire to develop their professional skills.

What will I do? As a BD Support Specialist, you will oversee and execute a variety of day-to-day BD operational deliverables, including thought leadership campaigns, data management, and technology-led initiatives. You will provide project-based support for BD teams on various deliverables such as lateral integration, event support, client targeting, and more. Your role will involve collaborating with Sector & Market BD leads, participating in team meetings, and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:


Responsibilities

  • BD Operational Deliverables: Oversee and execute thought leadership campaigns, data management, and technology-led initiatives.
  • Project-Based Support: Provide support for BD teams on deliverables including lateral integration, event support, client targeting, practice collateral, and biography creation.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work autonomously or as part of a project team to ensure deliverables are completed to the highest standards. Collaborate with Campaign Managers on campaign coordination and strategic initiatives.
  • Team Participation: Participate in team meetings, contribute to strategic planning, and play a key role in assessing and piloting new technology.
  • Process Improvement: Work across BD Operations to help establish operational teams and assist with process improvement.
  • Professional Development: Develop advanced project management skills through firm training and independent learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of marketing or business development experience, preferably in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent experience required; marketing, business, communications, English, or other related discipline preferred.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to balance competing needs and continually prioritize tasks.
  • Time Management: Efficiently manage time to balance various responsibilities and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Project Coordination: Ability to assist in planning and organizing projects with attention to detail and a focus on efficiency.
  • Team Collaboration: Espouses a positive, team-first attitude and works effectively with team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with firm marketing systems; proficiency with generative AI tools preferred.
  • Content Support: Excellent copywriting and editing skills; understanding of digital publishing and content creation a plus.
  • Subject-Matter Knowledge: Familiarity with issues related to project finance, infrastructure development, and/or public/private partnerships a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • National $69,000 - $86,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
