Overview

Job Purpose

The Director, Communications role requires an experienced communications professional to manage the communications needs of the New York Stock Exchange, the world's largest stock exchange. The role involves managing the media profiles and speaking engagements of NYSE's leadership team to include the President, NYSE. Candidates must have experience managing the media profiles of CEO or other C-Suite executives and have strong relationships across media, including experience with broadcast media.

The role is hands-on and involves writing press releases, handling media inquiries, proactive and reactive communications, and development of messaging. The Director of Communications is responsible for managing the overall voice and messaging of the NYSE, ensuring that all communications are aligned with business objectives, and will be required to foster strong relationships across media, commentators, and other audiences.

Candidates must demonstrate strong writing, management and inter-personal skills, be able to form relationships across the organization at all levels and be at ease working effectively in a high-paced environment where the candidate has to handle varying items simultaneously. The individual must be collaborative, a strong team player and have interest and experience working in communications in financial markets. The candidate should have experience in crisis communications and reputation management. Prior experience within a communications agency or within the in-house communications team at a company is required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the communications needs of the NYSE, its President and leadership team, which includes message development, media outreach and managing speaking opportunities.
  • Be responsible for telling the story of the NYSE and its key businesses, which include listings, capital markets and transactions as well as helping to promote the companies listed at the NYSE.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across media and journalists and be at ease speaking daily with media from a range of publications across geographies, time zones and type (e.g. online, broadcast, content).
  • Responsible for crisis communications responses, including crafting timely and effective statements.
  • Manage the NYSE's communications needs around key events including IPOs, client events and visits from prominent individuals.
  • Write press releases, messaging for interviews and speaking engagements, and social media content.
  • Manage the media following of the NYSE to ensure it has relationships with key followers.
  • Work in close collaboration with the ICE communications, NYSE marketing, social media and events teams (ICE is the parent company of the NYSE).
  • Take a hands-on approach in leading a team of Communications professionals.

Knowledge And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in a writing-based subject.
  • 15+ years of public relations / communications experience either in-house or within a communications agency, with a proven track record of managing external communication strategies (public relations, digital media, messaging, etc.) and executive profiles.
  • Experience managing teams with a hands-on leadership style.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling media relations, crisis communication, and brand messaging.
  • Knowledge and interest in financial markets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members across teams.
  • Established media relationships, ability to speak with media, and a proven ability to generate media results.
  • Exceptional writing skills including message development, bylines, blogs, social posts, video and podcast scripts, press releases and media statements.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously across deadlines.
  • Experience in managing communications during a crisis and in high-pressure environments, maintaining clear messaging.

New York Base Salary Range

The expected base salary for this role, if located in New York, is between $153,000 - $202,400 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange's incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual. Regular full-time ICE employees are eligible for a suite of competitive employee benefits, including healthcare coverage (medical, dental and vision), a 401(k) plan, life insurance, time off, and paid leave for qualifying circumstances.
