PSYCHIATRIST

BUREAU OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Chicago Department of Public Health

Number of Positions: 2 (1 Full Time and 1 Part Time vacancy)

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $138.40/Hour

Mission: CDPH works with communities and partners to create an equitable, safe, resilient and Healthy Chicago.

Under direction, functions as a medical doctor diagnosing and treating patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Conducts psychiatric and medical evaluations to assess the nature and extent of patients' mental disorders

* Formulates treatment plans based upon the diagnoses of patients' mental illnesses

* Provides psychotherapeutic counseling through individual, group, and family therapy sessions

* Prescribes medication for treatment of patients' mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders

* Coordinates various phases of treatment with other health care providers

* Provides clinical oversight for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners as they diagnose, treat, and monitor patients

* Leads quality improvement initiatives by developing and implementing new policies and protocols to enhance operational efficiency and patient care

* Provides consultation and directions to staff in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cases

* Serves as collaborating physician for psychiatric nurse practitioners to provide clinical and administrative supervision.

* Reviews medical records regularly to ensure high quality care

* Refers patients to hospitals as their treatment or condition warrants

* Prepares and maintains patient case records and related work activity reports

* Examines patients to determine general physical condition, as required

* Develops and conducts in-service training programs for clinical staff

* Reviews protocols and procedures to ensure clinic adheres to accreditation best practices

* Oversees Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners to review their patient files and guidelines for practice

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30pm (3-4 days per week) and 11:30 am to 7:30 pm (1-2 days per week.) Work schedule can be flexible depending on site.

Qualifications

Qualifications - External

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), and completion of a psychiatry residency program (or anticipated completion of a psychiatry residency program, prior to employment) approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

NOTE: Completion of psychiatry residency is not required at time of application but must be completed at the time of employment.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

* Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted physician license awarded by any U.S. state at the time of application.

* Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted State of Illinois physician license and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate at the time of employment.

* Applicants must be board certified in Psychiatry or eligible for certification at the time of employment.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:



  • Intermediate, Advanced or Expert level conducting in-service staff training programs.
  • Previous experience prescribing the types, proper dosage, and possible side effects of medications used in the treatment of mental illness.
  • Currently Board Certified or eligible for Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • Able to speak affluently in Spanish.
  • Previous work experience with the clinical documentation required for the appropriate billing of services.
