Job Summary

Supports evening care students with school success, helps prepare early childhood students for school readiness, and assists the center director. This is a grant funded position.
Job Description

  • Organize program materials for lessons and activities, as well as document attendance, incidents and other observation for ages 3-5,
  • Deliver dynamic daily curriculum to engage children ages 4-12 in recreation, academic and social character-building that expands school day learning in a meaningful way.
  • Using your coursework training, model positive guidance and effective classroom management to maintain the safety, well-being and attention of all children while leading fun fitness activities, and guiding children at play.
  • Excellent communication skills with varied audience including children, parents, staff and school personnel.
  • Model positive guidance and effective classroom management to maintain the safety and well-being and attention of all children.
  • Meets regularly with the Program Director regarding professional progress and team accountability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or
  • One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) with a High School Diploma/GED or Certified Childcare Professional credential.
  • Have or demonstrate the abillity to attain Illinois Gateway Level 3 ECE Credential


Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Eduucation/Child Development
One year experience working with children and youth 4 -12 in recreational/after school program
Illinois Gateway Level 4 ECE Credential
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of pre-school children between 3-5 yrs.
  • Preferred Head Start experiences.
  • Meet all University and DCFS hiring requirements, including background check and Physical.
  • Follow all DCFS licensing guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in all required training and professional development opportunities.
