Job Overview

The Asset Protection Investigator implements and supports asset protection programs under the direction of Asset Protection Management. Responsibilities include conducting internal investigations, managing shortage control, and ensuring the effectiveness of safety programs. The Investigator focuses on reducing inventory losses and other controllable losses. They conduct thorough internal investigations using all available resources while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to company policies on record retention and investigation procedures.

What You Will Do



  • Conduct complex investigations into potential theft, fraud, and policy violations using exception reporting, trend analysis, and CCTV
  • Perform investigative interviews
  • Maintain detailed records of findings, results, and data related to investigations
  • Present completed investigations to Asset Protection Executives
  • Monitor compliance with loss prevention standards
  • Manage internal cases from initiation through investigation to timely resolution
  • Support store-level investigations when needed
  • Present data effectively for prosecution or to business partners
  • Build partnerships with facility leadership and Asset Protection Executives to achieve team and individual goals
  • Train and develop staff to meet performance expectations
  • Utilize investigative and analytical tools to identify trends and patterns
  • Implement and execute strategies to reduce shrink
  • Make security improvement recommendations to Facility and Asset Protection Executives
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and legal teams when necessary
  • Organize evidence for criminal cases and testify in court as required
  • Adhere strictly to company policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by management


Skills You Will Need

Investigative Skills: Ability to conduct complex investigations into theft, fraud, and policy violations using tools such as exception reporting, trend analysis, and CCTV

Interviewing: Skilled in performing investigative interviews to gather information and resolve cases

Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills to analyze data, identify patterns, and develop strategies to reduce shrink and improve security

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement. Ability to present findings clearly to senior management and external partners

Confidentiality: Strict adherence to maintaining confidentiality and following company policies regarding record retention and investigation procedures

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously while prioritizing tasks effectively in a dynamic environment

Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy when documenting findings and maintaining detailed records

Collaboration: Ability to build partnerships with facility leadership, Asset Protection Executives, and law enforcement to achieve team and company goals

Team Leadership: Capable of training and developing staff, providing constructive feedback, and promoting a high standard of performance

Adaptability: Highly organized and able to adjust to shifting priorities and workloads while maintaining a sense of urgency

Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using computers, handheld devices, and investigative tools to gather and interpret data

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 2+ years of Asset Protection experience in a distribution center or store environment.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.

Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility except in locations governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection for testing, absent extenuating circumstances. In all circumstances, testing must be completed within 24 hours of notification.
