Overview

Ready to shape the future of science and global health? ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. The Senior EHS Specialist translates the implementation of policies, procedures, and best management practices throughout the organization to ensure employee safety. Experience in biological and chemical waste management is highly preferred as this role involves providing regulatory oversight to these programs.

The Senior EHS Specialist will work onsite, typically three days per week in Manassas, VA, one day per week in either Gaithersburg or Germantown, MD, and one day per week remotely. This role involves continuous improvement, implementation, and compliance of environmental health and safety programs, including recommending enhancements to workflows, assessing risk levels, and analyzing data to ensure staff safety.



Responsibilities

    Compliance and Safety Training: Ensure the organization complies with all environmental and safety regulations and standards. Research and suggest improvements for safety training programs to enhance staff knowledge and preparedness.
  • Safety Audits and Inspections: Lead safety audits and inspections, following routine processes and detailed instructions. Advise and sustain the organization-wide safety committee to maintain high safety standards.
  • Data Analysis and Emergency Response: Proactively review safety and environmental reports, compile feedback, and identify procedure improvements. Respond to emergency situations, follow up on incidents, and support OSHA regulations, including mandatory postings and logs.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 or more years of experience, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Proven experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
  • Excellent analytical skills to compile, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations and follow up on incidents.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, including mandatory postings and logs.
  • Experience in maintaining compliance programs such as Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical Hygiene, and Respiratory Protection.
  • Effective communication skills to advise and sustain safety committees.
  • Ability to coordinate and monitor the work of outside contractors.
  • Proficiency in conducting safety training for new employees and contractors.
  • Preference also given to candidate with the following experience:
    • VA Waste Management Facility Operator
    • Chemical Hygiene
    • Chemical Waste Management
    • Biological Waste Management
    • Regulatory Oversight


Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $95,000 to $100,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
