Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or the equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager for General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) Precision Structures & Optics (PSO), you'll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Manufacturing Engineering department by facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead, coach, and mentor a team of primarily intermediate or experienced professionals to monitor and improve manufacturing processes, increase efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve yields on all products. Other primary responsibilities include career development, completion of staff performance appraisals, employee engagement, and resource / succession planning of team members. At General Dynamics Mission Systems we manufacture Beryllium products used in the most demanding applications, across the aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries. Our products are used in high performance targeting and guidance systems, missile defense systems, space exploration, and satellites.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Leading and managing the manufacturing engineering team with a focus on machining operations
  • Overseeing the design, development, and implementation of machining processes and procedures
  • Ensuring production efficiency, precision, and cost-effectiveness in machining operations
  • Collaborating with design, quality, and supply chain teams to optimize machining processes
  • Implementing continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing principles in machining
  • Identify, analyze, and monitor scope changes to include documenting and communicating any cost, schedule, or risk impact
  • Effectively communicate relevant team or project information with other related teams
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, earned value, and staffing requirements
  • May manage business proposals within business area
  • Contributes to the strategic direction/plan for functional area
  • Regular communication with senior members of internal team, division level management
  • Regular customer interface
  • Regularly assess performance of team members to established processes and procedures
  • Lead employee development and performance management of employees

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management
  • Extensive knowledge of CNC Machining, tooling, and programming
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM software and machining technologies
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Effective communication and project management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategies for change
  • Experienced in working in a manufacturing environment where there may be schedule changes, design changes, and validation errors

Target salary range: USD $129,706.00/Yr. - USD $140,346.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
