SUMMARY

Supervises a group of personnel, potentially composed of diverse talent, including engineers, designers, planners, analysts, and administrative personnel. Provides technical leadership and assists Manager with planning, scheduling, and group development. Assigns work, evaluates quality and performance, ensures compliance with company policies, to include proper time keeping, and provides updates and status to senior staff as requested. Assigns goals, mentors, and evaluates assigned personnel both formally and informally. Works with the various customers and vendors to reach resolution on complicated issues, and is responsible for quality, schedule, and cost performance of assigned tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES



  • Provides direction and technical guidance to supervised group of four (4) or more direct reports, resulting in their completion of all tasks on schedule, within budget, and according to defined quality commitments
  • Is accountable for subordinates' individual performance, leads direct employees' skill development, and monitors their progress
  • Responsible for all time charging by assigned personnel in accordance with company policy
  • In partnership with Senior Supervisors and/or Management, prepares supervised employees' goals, evaluates performance, and makes recommendations for promotions, terminations, and other personnel adjustments
  • Ensures all time charging by assigned personnel in accordance with company policy and resolves conflicts within assigned group
  • Schedules and hosts regular staff meetings to provide department updates and progress on tasks
  • Acts as groups primary contact for change communication, explaining the nature of change and their impact on team operations and individual roles
  • Attends relevant meetings to stay informed about upcoming changes and represents the teams' interests, providing feedback
  • Develops and maintains schedules to ensure smooth implementation of changes
  • Interfaces with other Engineering groups, as well as Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, and Regulatory Bodies as required, to stay informed of company priorities
  • Represents their group to internal and external customers, presenting as needed
  • Facilitates conflict resolution between parties to ensure enterprise needs are achieved
  • Leads the creation of detailed and accurate BOEs for new projects, ensuring all estimates are based on thorough analysis and reliable data
  • Utilizes historical data, industry benchmarks, and expert judgment to inform and validate estimates
  • Collaborates with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and insights for developing estimates



SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering field or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience within a marine or technical field
  • Must have proven track record of proactive leadership, planning, and organizing assigned work to meet business objectives successfully
  • Competent using Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, Tableau, and Jama



PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work occurs in both a standard office setting and an outdoor shipyard environment, requiring full adherence to NASSCO's safety policies. Engineering supervisors must participate in Sea Trials. Position is not recompensed with overtime pay but additional effort, beyond an 8-hour day will be expected as necessary to support commitments. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.

Position requires the ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard, walk on scaffolding, work at heights aboard vessels under construction or repair, and carry, raise, lower, push or pull objects up to 40 lbs. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 20% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Reports to Senior Supervisor or Manager. Sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with minimal guidance; management provides broad guidance and overall direction. Work primarily impacts own VP's organization but involves significant engagement of selected areas of the Company. Responsible for groups' achievement of schedule, cost, and quality commitments. Accountable for subordinates' individual performance

PAY SCALE

$117,200 - $184,900

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
