Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated undergraduate student to join our research team for a part-time, temporary position in computational analysis related to our NSF EAGER grant, "Solving Representation Learning and Catastrophic Forgetting with Adaptive Resonance Theory" (NSF Grant #2420248). The successful candidate will work closely with a team of researchers focused on advancing the understanding and application of Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) neural networks.

The primary responsibility of the role is to contribute to the performance analysis of ART neural network models, with an emphasis on assessing and optimizing computational complexity. The candidate will evaluate and implement innovative methods to reduce algorithmic computational complexity while preserving model performance and quantify the tradeoffs between speed and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performance Analysis: Conduct performance analyses on Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) neural network models, focusing on assessing computational complexity and performance metrics
  • Collaborative Research: Contribute to research discussions and project updates, assisting with integrating experimental findings into broader project goals and publications
  • Report Generation: Prepare reports and presentations summarizing research findings and contributing to the drafting of research papers related to the project
Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Technical Skills:
    • College-level Python coursework
    • Exposure to Java, Javascript, C++, and C#
  • Communication Skills: Ability to present technical information clearly, both in written and verbal formats
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively in a research environment, contributing both independently and as part of a team
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15.00/hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
