Winston-Salem State University is seeking a dedicated professional to support transfer students and adult learners in achieving their academic goals. The Transfer Credit Articulator and Academic Advisor position plays a critical role in facilitating the transition process by evaluating transfer credits, advising students on course selections, and ensuring compliance with degree requirements. The role also involves maintaining and developing articulation agreements with partner institutions, coordinating onboarding and orientation programs, and providing resources tailored to the unique needs of adult learners.

This position will support the academic success of transfer and adult students by:


  • Transfer Credit Articulation Activities: Ensuring transfer credits are accurately assessed and applied to degree programs in alignment with institutional policies and academic standards.

  • Academic Advising Activities: Providing guidance to transfer and adult students on course selection, degree requirements, and academic planning.

  • Enrollment/Advising Events: Participating in enrollment and advising events.

  • Data Mart Activities: Assist with the UNC Student Data Mart activities, contributing to the accurate and timely reporting of student data.

  • Office of the Registrar Activities: Supporting Office of the Registrar related activities, particularly during peak times.

Professional Knowledge
Demonstrates knowledge of program policies, procedures, and technology by:

  • Understanding academic policies on transfer credits, accreditation standards and articulation agreements;
  • Reviewing transcripts and course descriptions to accurately determine equivalency;
  • Developing academic plans that ensure an efficient path to graduation;
  • Utilizing Admissions Pros and Slate to manage and transfer student records;
  • Utilizing Ellucian Degree Works to monitor students' pathways to ensure timely and successful degree completion;
  • Maintaining academic records in Ellucian Banner.

Program/Project Administration
Manages several and/or multifaceted program(s) or project(s) in their entirety by:

  • Managing transfer credit evaluations for adult and transfer students;
  • Advising adult and transfer students;
  • Developing and maintaining transfer guides;
  • Providing training sessions or workshops for the community on transfer credit policies.

Consultation
Enhances collaboration among individuals and groups by:

  • Working closely with academic departments to determine course equivalencies, review transcripts, and ensure that transferred courses meet departmental and accreditation standards;
  • Collaborating with the Office of the Registrar to ensure accurate and consistent application of transfer credits in students' records;
  • Providing information regarding policy changes, database updates, or troubleshooting complex cases.

Information Analysis and Decision-Making
Serves as a resource for others in resolving issues and problems by:

  • Reviewing additional documentation, such as syllabi or course descriptions, and using their judgment to decide whether credits should be reconsidered in cases where students appeal credit evaluations;
  • Assessing whether each credit evaluation aligns with institutional policies and state or federal regulations;
  • Consulting with academic departments to propose solutions that balance institutional policies with student needs.

Communication and Marketing
Coordinate staff development and training/education programs by

  • Conducting training sessions and creating resources to educate faculty and staff about transfer credit policies, articulation agreements, and advising processes;
  • Collaborating with marketing and admissions departments to ensure transfer credit policies and advising services are prominently featured in promotional materials;
  • Participating in orientation and advising events to provide updated transfer resources and ensure that incoming transfer and adult students receive accurate and cohesive guidance.

Department Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions;
  • 3+ years of experience academic advising, transfer credit evaluation, or a related field in higher education preferred;
  • 3+ years of experience with academic program requirements, degree audits, and credit evaluation processes;
  • 3+ years of experience working with Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Degree Works, Slate CRM, or Admission Pros CRM or other student information systems preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
