POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director, Design Services is a visionary leader responsible for driving innovative design strategy, managing high-performing cross-functional teams, and delivering creative solutions aligned with business and brand goals. This role oversees creative design, structural engineering, and innovation efforts, while collaborating closely with sales, operations, and production teams across multiple locations. The Senior Director, Design Services champions the value and capabilities of The Vomela Companies to both internal stakeholders and external clients, ensuring top-tier creative output that meets evolving market demands.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Strategy

  • Work with Vomela leadership to create a vision of the future state of design services in our industry and company and execute on that vision.
  • Lead creative vision, strategy, and design execution across all segments of the Vomela business, including transportation, events, retail and branded environments.
  • Inspire, mentor, and manage multidisciplinary creative and engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and performance.
  • Champion a unified vision for Vomela that integrates creative services with structural design and production capabilities.
  • Lead the development and execution of best practices, SOPs, and process improvements across creative workflows and operations.

Creative Execution

  • Translate business goals and client objectives into compelling brand experiences, visual communications, and structural solutions.
  • Oversee concept development through final execution across packaging, fixtures, displays, environments, and marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain a pulse on trends in packaging, structural design, retail environments, and creative technology.

Operational & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and operations teams to deliver integrated creative solutions and enhance customer experiences.
  • Ensure efficient project planning, resource management, and budget adherence across all creative and structural design projects.

Client Engagement & Business Growth

  • Serve as a key client-facing leader, guiding creative direction and presenting solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Participate in client visits and presentations to showcase studio capabilities and identify new growth opportunities through relationship-building.
  • Participate in business development efforts, helping to scope projects and secure new creative work

QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in creative, design, or structural engineering roles.
  • 5+ years in managerial roles leading cross-functional design/engineering teams.
  • 3+ years of experience in retail, packaging, or print/graphics industry.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and brand storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrated success in leading change, driving process improvement, and managing complex projects across functions.

Preferred

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, ArtiosCAD, and other relevant design software.
  • Working knowledge of retail visual merchandising and shopper behavior.
  • Strong client-facing skills and business acumen.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to sit, stand, and move intermittently throughout the day. Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs). Travel may be required for client meetings, studio visits, and team collaboration.
