Training Administrator
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Training Administrator to support training operations and programs in Norfolk, VA.
The Training Administrator plays a key role in enhancing the competencies of our employees by supporting training and workforce development programs that align with our Company's core values. This position directly serves our production workforce on site and is responsible for ensuring that training programs are well-organized, effective, and aligned with the organization's strategic goals, while also managing the administrative and logistical aspects of training coordination and delivery.
To excel in this role, the Training Administrator should have a strong passion for customer service and employee learning and development with the ability to effectively communicate and engage with employees at all levels and external stakeholders. Initiative, creativity, attention to detail, and organizational abilities will be critical in creating, executing, and maintaining impactful training initiatives.
Position is full time, onsite, and may require work hours outside of a standard work week.
Job Description:
Key responsibilities include:


  • Assess training needs and identify skill gaps through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with employees, managers, instructors, or customer representatives.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders (to include Mechanics, Trade Leaders, HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, Company leadership and other stakeholders) to ensure training content is relevant and effective.
  • Coordinate training and workforce development events by determining and securing date, time, location, facilitator, and number of participants, etc. Maintain training schedules and rosters for internal and external trainings.
  • Serve as a professional resource for employees and managers regarding training and workforce development programs and promote the use of training and workforce development services.
  • Monitor participant progress and performance, offering additional support or resources as needed.
  • Manage logistics such as venue arrangements, equipment setup, and participant registration for internal and external training. Ensure trainers have the necessary resources and materials for effective delivery.
  • Key support to various workforce development programs (Apprenticeship, Management Trainees, Internship, etc.) and provide mentorship to program incumbents.
  • Support and/or lead projects of various size, as assigned and under the direction of Workforce Development/HR leadership, relevant to employee training and development initiatives.


Workforce Development Partnerships & Compliance:


  • Ensure training and workforce development programs comply with industry regulations, organizational policies, and quality standards.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and best practices relevant to training and development.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with education institutions/third-party vendors, workforce development agencies/organizations.
  • Stay abreast of the new trends and tools in employee development.


Administrative functions include, but are not limited to:


  • Track and report on training and workforce development expenditures to ensure alignment with budgetary constraints.
  • Maintain accurate records of training and workforce development activities, participant attendance, and assessment outcomes.
  • Collect data, conduct analysis, and generate/present reports to help evaluate needs and effectiveness of training and workforce development programs, to include ROI. Make informed recommendations based on findings.
  • Utilize software and other technological tools to streamline administration and enhance the training experience.


Qualifications:


  • Must have Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of professional exempt-level experience relative to position. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must have proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including third-party training providers and public workforce systems and employees of all levels (deckplate to executive).
  • Must have strong organizational, administrative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have the ability to support/manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a high level of initiative, self-motivation, and adaptability.
  • Must have ability to utilize HR technologies (HRIS, ATS, etc.) with professional level skills in Microsoft tools, particularly Excel.
  • Must have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods, tools, and techniques preferred.
  • Prefer experience administering training programs specific to ship repair or industrial trades.


Travel Requirements:


  • Must have the ability to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).


Physical Requirements:


  • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
  • General shipyard/industrial environment. this type of work has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 65% of the time.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Hear, talk, and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
  • A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
