Essential Job Duties
The Director of Information Technology (IT) is a critical leadership role, reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Faculty and Research. The Director of IT oversees all IT management within the college, ensuring alignment with the college's mission and strategic goals. The Director leverages expertise in agile project management methodologies, applied knowledge in security and regulatory compliance, and strategic collaboration with the central Office of Information Technology ( OIT) and other colleges to minimize redundancies, promote fiscal responsibility, and reduce waste.

Primary Goals
To establish and sustain an IT infrastructure that supports the college's strategic framework while ensuring compliance with university, federal, and state standards. The Director will foster collaboration, efficiency, and effective operations.
A successful IT team will:

  • Provide effective support for all the IT needs of the Poole College including instruction, research, and administration.
  • Deliver exceptional service by maintaining high standards of responsiveness, reliability, and professionalism to meet the needs of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Foster partnerships and collaboration by building strong relationships with central OIT and peer colleges to share resources, reduce redundancies, and drive collective innovation.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility by developing and implementing cost-effective IT strategies, including reviewing and approving all technology purchases to ensure compliance with university standards and federal and state guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance and security to regulatory standards in order to safeguard data and IT operations.


Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Collaboration

  • Create, implement and align strategies to further the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Effectively manage a team of IT professionals and students.
  • Communicate and collaborate with college leadership to ensure IT needs are being met.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the central OIT, university IT committees and workings groups and other colleges to share best practices, leverage enterprise solutions, and reduce duplication of efforts.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with external vendors and university departments to deliver cost-effective and innovative solutions.

Infrastructure, Security, and Services Management

  • Oversee the college's IT infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with university-wide standards.
  • Manage core IT services, including networking, systems, applications, and cloud integrations, emphasizing reliability and efficiency.
  • Lead the IT Service Desk to deliver exceptional support, continuously refining processes to enhance responsiveness and reduce resolution times.
  • Apply appropriate security protocols and regulatory compliance, ensuring that IT services meet university standards and external requirements (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Review and approve all hardware and software purchases and reimbursement requests for technology-related expenses, ensuring compliance with university standards and adherence to federal and state guidelines.

Process Improvement and Project Management

  • Lead IT projects, ensuring timely delivery, clear communication, and flexibility in addressing changing needs.
  • Design and implement streamlined workflows to improve IT service delivery while minimizing duplication of efforts and waste.
  • Use data-driven insights to monitor performance, identify inefficiencies, and implement continuous improvements.
  • Promote fiscal responsibility by evaluating and optimizing IT budgets, ensuring cost-effective procurement and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with central OIT to deploy shared services and enterprise solutions that reduce operational overhead.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead a high-performing IT team, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and a focus on collaboration, innovation, and efficiency.
  • Provide ongoing professional development, cross-training, and performance feedback to ensure team members are equipped to meet the college's diverse technology needs.
  • Establish a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, emphasizing exceptional customer service and innovative problem-solving.

Collaboration and Networking

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the college, central OIT, and other colleges, fostering open communication and shared decision-making.
  • Develop cross-campus partnerships to identify opportunities for resource sharing and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Actively participate in university IT committees, professional organizations, and events such as Educause to stay informed about industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree and at least two years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree with at least three years of relevant experience OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience


For management-level roles, also include with the above requirements 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience with agile project management methodologies, including leading IT projects and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong applied knowledge of IT security protocols and regulatory compliance standards using National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-171 framework (e.g., CUI, FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Expertise in building and managing secure, scalable IT infrastructures and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to align IT strategies with organizational goals and collaborate across departments to drive efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, including evaluating and approving purchases to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, focusing on stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with SCCM, JAMF, ServiceNow, project management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ITIL V4 Certification, SAFE 6.0 Certification, CompTIA Security+, AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials
