About the Department
NC State is a research extensive land grant institution serving more than 34,000 students and is located in Raleigh, NC, the state capital (http://www.ncsu.edu/about-nc-state/). This geographical location offers access to major intellectual and cultural resources, including the Research Triangle Park, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the National Humanities Center. The School Psychology Program is an APA-accredited and NASP-approved Ph.D. program.

The Department of Psychology consists of 29.5 faculty members, the staff of the advising center, the staff of the Psychoeducational Clinic, and the four members of our office staff, as well as over 950 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate students pursuing their doctoral degrees. The faculty are outstanding scholars, many of whom have won awards for teaching and research and/or are fellows in the major professional societies in Psychology. Faculty have received research grants and training grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, the National Institute on Aging, the Army Research Laboratory, the Army Research Institute, the Department of Education, and numerous companies.
Essential Job Duties
The Department of Psychology at North Carolina State University invites applications for a professional track assistant professor position ( Assistant Teaching Professor). This is a full-time, 9-month appointment with the possibility of contract renewal. The teaching load is 4 classes per semester, with the option of a teaching load reduction in case of additional assignments ( e.g., academic advising).

Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level in the department's Psychology BA program. Teaching needs include Introductory Psychology, Research methods, and content courses, mostly in the cognitive (bio, perception, cognition) or community-clinical ( e.g., abnormal, community, social psychology) domain. Candidates should be available for in-person and online teaching. The successful candidate may also be involved in the department's graduate student teacher training and supervising student-lead independent study projects.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience. Applicant must demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence.
Other Required Qualifications
Experience teaching Psychology courses at the college level. Strong commitment to higher education, student development, and student success.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience teaching in-person and online classes.
  • Experience teaching a variety of Psychology courses.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students.
