North Carolina State University Transportation Department (NC State Transportation) is a receipts-supported auxiliary within the Office of Finance and Administration responsible for parking and transit services, managing 20,000 parking spaces, maintenance and operation of 10 parking decks, enforcing parking regulations, parking citation review and appeal and administration of a 10-route transit system serving over 2.7 million riders per year.

North Carolina State Transportation is seeking a Transportation Planner to lead innovative solutions for the Wolfline Transit System. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of campus transit while having a direct impact on student and staff mobility at one of the nation's top

Key Responsibilities:
Program Management

  • Lead technical studies on ridership, routes, and transit pass use (GoPass) with a focus on data analysis, service evaluations, and passenger amenities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Transportation Planning Manager to oversee Wolfline's contractor, implementing and managing service changes like route adjustments, schedule updates, and station improvements.
  • Spearhead emergency and special event service plans, coordinating weather-related and event-driven route changes.
  • Ensure timely, accurate communication with TransDev, guaranteeing the system
    displays up-to-date and accurate transit information.


Communication

  • Be the voice of Wolfline, monitoring customer interactions across phone, email, voicemail, and social media, ensuring the highest level of service.
  • Translate complex Transportation Department policies to meet client needs while
    fostering strong relationships across campus units.
  • Provide outreach and collaborate with private transit providers (such as apartment
    complexes), serving as the liaison between them and the university.
  • Lead presentations, develop engaging content, and maintain effective communication channels across multiple platforms.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Expertise in analyzing transit operations, including ridership and route evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of the policies, procedures, and objectives guiding NC State's transportation services.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and engage with diverse stakeholders, from campus units to private contractors.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, with a knack for turning insights into actionable
    recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience leading presentations and managing public outreach efforts.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • In-Depth Knowledge of Public Transit Systems: Familiarity with the dynamics of public transportation, including operations, logistics, and customer service, to make informed decisions that support the campus community.

  • Innovative Marketing & Promotion for Alternative Transportation: Experience with
    creative strategies to market and promote alternative transportation options, engaging with diverse audiences.

  • Expertise in Presentation Graphics & GIS Mapping: Proficiency in designing compelling presentations and creating detailed maps using GIS technology to visually communicate transit data and plans.

  • Strategic Transportation Master Planning: Ability to contribute to the development and refinement of long-term transportation master plans that align with university goals and sustainability initiatives.

  • Proficient Computer Skills: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,
    Access) and social media platforms, along with the ability to adapt to new software and digital tools for effective communication and operations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Comprehensive Experience in Transit Operations: A proven track record in transit

    enhancing the operations of a transit system, contributing to its growth and efficiency while ensuring seamless service for riders.
