Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist III, Academic Support will be responsible for providing front-line customer service to a diverse group of students, faculty, and public patrons in the use of academic support services and resources. Implements policies and procedures related to library and access services. Coordinates workload of part-time staff in the absence of the department Coordinator. Facilitates processes related to library collections.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide exceptional customer service at department service desks
  2. Implement policies and procedures related to library and access services
  3. Assist library patrons in the use of copy machines, workstations, printers, video players and other equipment available for public use
  4. Process student IDs, including specialty badges for Health Services and employee access badges using ID credentials
  5. Coordinates circulation staff (regular, student and work study) monitoring workload and scheduling in the absence of the department Coordinator
  6. Serve as main contact and coordinator of library physical and electronic reserve items, including all processing of items and communication with other stakeholders
  7. Retrieve and process system intralibrary hold requests; receive, sort and process daily shipments of requested materials from other consortium libraries
  8. Assist with special library projects including annual inventory, special exhibits, and withdrawing of library materials (as needed)
  9. Work with the Collection development librarian to maintain the serials collection and provide usage statistics
  10. Facilitates shelving, shelf reading, collection maintenance and inventory projects
  11. Process library reports for requested materials, missing items and claimed returns
  12. Organize forms and supplies
  13. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be computer literate and have experience with automated library systems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and productivity software including Excel and Word, the Horizon automated library system and iStar (PeopleSoft)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment problems
  • Working knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • This is an evening position and work hours will coincide with department closing times

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary

Hiring salary range is $33,540 - $38,571

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
