Summary:

The Marine Deck Officer Warrant Officer MOS 880A/MOS 88K Technical Instructor/Writer will provide support to the US Army Transportation School, Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE) MITD-Simulator Operator/Technical Instructor Support Services.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide technical instruction and training development support in all 880A1/2 Marine Deck Officer AIT, PME and functional training courses.
  • The courses or blocks of instruction cover fundamentals and basic skills of Army watercraft operation incorporating all aspects, to include Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling, Tugboat Operation, and Maritime Simulation utilization.
  • All instruction follows a well- standardized method/approach for all courses in the field of Army vessel and maritime operations.
  • Other tasks include hands-on instruction on various tasks (firefighting, damage control, ship handling), answering questions and follow-up on questions requiring some additional research; up-date lesson plans; review and incorporate lessons learned from CALL; review of POIs, field manuals, and technical manuals to support classroom instruction, prior to class beginning.
  • Will develop and/or modifies lesson plans for assigned area of instruction or for groups of other instructors. Lesson plans typically reflect advanced techniques in instructional techniques and tactics.
  • Determines the way to best convey the course material to the students using a combination of teaching methods, e.g., conferences, demonstrations, and practical exercises on equipment, to present the subject matter.
  • Shall be responsible for maintaining an instructor to student ratio of no more than 1:12 for up to 24 students.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be able to physically conduct simulator operator/technical instructor/writer duties and in the stated subject area when required in a classroom, simulator, live training aid, and/or ship environment.
  • Standing for extended periods of time on hard decks or floors exposed to heat and cold conditions is common when conducting live training events.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency in the following Microsoft software programs, which will be furnished as part of the workstation for performance to include software updates as provided: Word 2013; Excel 2013; PowerPoint 2013; and Outlook 2013.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum education level is a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Army military education/experience in instructing and writing.
  • Minimum 10 years of prior military service as a Warrant Officer who has a demonstrated experience level commensurate with a Warrant Officer assignment onboard an Army watercraft. Contractor will daily instruct, research, recommend changes, and update course materials in accordance with prescribed course framework.
  • The individual shall have had actual shipboard experience in the following: Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling and Tugboat Operation.
  • -Must be physically able to launch and recover FRBs from a trailer, operate an FRB in calm and adverse (winds up to 20 knots, seas up to 2 feet) weather conditions, stand for periods of 3 to 4 hours continuously, and be capable of lifting 50 pounds without injury.
  • Have completed the Initial Military Training (IMT) and Professional Military Education (PME) courses required for the specific MOS
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in a related field.
