Senior Technical Writer

Job Summary:

Responsible for technical documentation creation from a process/workflow and procedure standpoint. Provide senior level writing and editing as it relates to the creation of new and revised information products. Perform conceptual document design and proof layouts. Evaluation of new publication production technologies and usability techniques.

Responsibilities:

• Perform senior level writing and editing, conceptual document design, conceptual graphic design, and new information product development as assigned (manuals, user guides, installation posters, quick reference documents, instruction sheets, embedded GUI/HMI help content, etc.)
• Provide content and format editing for peer writers, ensuring compliance with established standards (both internal and external). Assist department manager with the development and maintenance of such standards.
• Assist with the establishment of a documentation creation (and maintenance) process which utilizes best practices as it pertains to the creation and control of all product support documents.
• Evaluate new publication production technologies and conduct usability studies to determine information product effectiveness.
• Create and maintains all the above referenced documentation collaborating with other engineering and software team members to adhere to established technical communication best practices and internal style guides.
• Maintain necessary administration/organizations tasks to assure personal operation within approved budgetary limits and project timelines.

Education and Experience Required:

• BA in Technical Writing, Information Design, and/or Computer Science or equivalent degree
• Minimum 5 years' experience in technical communications and/or information design.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Advanced document design/creation capabilities
• Good organizational, administration, and project planning skills to meet development schedules
• Thorough understanding of the technical publication creation process, document management methodologies, project tracking, and usability analysis procedures
• Expertise in the use of desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign), document management, and project tracking software.

Travel Requirements:

• This position will be in Johns Creek, GA and will require no travel.
