The Opportunity

The School of Teacher Education in the College of Community Innovation & Education (CCIE) seeks experienced and qualified instructors to join our part-time team of instructional adjunct faculty who want to positively impact the professional preparation of future teachers. Adjunct faculty will teach content, methods, specialization, or foundation courses in the programs of elementary education, exceptional student education, early childhood & development education, or secondary and K-12 education. Adjunct faculty will promote growth in teaching practice by providing feedback on execution of practice, content knowledge, applied skills and professional responsibilities. Prior K-12 teaching experience is required.The position offers flexible scheduling.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Ability to teach a content specific educational course.
  • Ability to meet STE unit requirements and deadlines for course set-up, implementation, and review.
  • Ability to meet students weekly in a face-to-face, mixed or online format.
  • Take ownership of and administer prescribed course curriculum, materials and assessments.
  • Establish and maintain communication with faculty course lead and unit support.
  • Mentor student candidates and respond to their inquiries throughout the semester.
  • Use technology, online platforms, tools, and software to support instruction.
  • Keep accurate records of teacher candidate performance.
  • Ability to respond regularly to student course questions throughout the contract period.

Minimum Qualifications by the time of hire:


  • An earned master's degree (undergraduate level teaching) or doctorate degree (graduate level teaching) from an accredited institution in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Early Childhood and Development Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education or K-12 Education (Including English Language Arts Education, Social Science Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Exceptional Student Education, Reading Education, Art Education, Physical Education, World Languages Education) or a closely related field.
  • Current and Valid State Teacher Certification.
  • Kindergarten to grade Twelve (K-12) teaching experience (3+ years).
  • An earned ESOL endorsement or 300 hours of training in ESOL methods and practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

A highly qualified individual will have strong teaching, communication, and interpersonal skillsin addition to:


  • A doctorate degree from an accredited institution in Exceptional Student Education, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), K-8 Math & Science Education, K-12 Reading Education or a closely related degree at the posting close date.
  • Kindergarten to grade Twelve (K-12) teaching experience (6+ years).
  • Experience teaching K-8 Math & Science.
  • Experience teaching K-12 Reading.
  • Experience in successfully teaching post-secondary undergraduate or graduate courses.
  • Experience working in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) field.
  • Experience teaching online courses.
  • Experience using Canvas online platform.
  • Professional experience as a school administrator and/or program lead.
  • An earned reading endorsement.
