Position: Forklift Operator

Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 6:00PM - 6:00 AM (2-2-3 Schedule)

Location: Carol Stream, IL ***This position will be relocating to our new state of the art facility in Elgin, IL in 2025!



Summary of Job

The Forklift Operator's main job function is to operate an electric, diesel, propane, or gasoline engine powered forklift truck to transport materials on the shop floor in accordance with work order tickets or verbal instruction from, Supervisors and or management, and to load and unload trucks with materials or product. The Forklift Operator provides support to the supply chain and production lines through collecting, loading, shipping and receiving warehouse products. Other types of equipment include: Electric Jack, Strapping tools, hammers, pry bars, and other miscellaneous hand tools.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The right candidate will lead their job with a strong safety mindset including but not limited to:



  • Ensure that all company safety procedures are followed to include OSHA compliance guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Abide by all company rules and policies regarding conduct and safety.
  • Comply with safety regulations governing the operation of the equipment. Conduct operations and model behavior that promotes a safe environment. This includes looking in the direction of travel, wearing required PPE, wearing a seat belt, driving at appropriate speeds, and appropriate use of horns.
  • Perform daily inspections on the forklift in use to determine the need for repairs that may include checking horns, lights, safety belt, fuel, oil, lubricants, cooling system, and motor tune-up.
  • Report truck malfunctions to maintenance and/or supervisor.
  • Keep updated records of inventory and activity logs.
  • Perform cycle counts as required.
  • Receive and interpret picking tickets and product orders to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributed and/or shipped.
  • Move materials and items from receiving and storage areas to other designated areas.
  • Ensure customers receive products in accordance with the order, packing, and delivery requirements.
  • Maintain efficient and effective production standards.
  • Unload and load trucks in shipping and receiving as required, securing all loads with strapping as applicable.
  • Use wireless RF scanning equipment to ensure accuracy of inventory

  • Knowledge of various material-handling equipment an asset.
  • Possess a high regard for safety in the workplace.
  • Good math, language, reading skills.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and good motor skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of warehouse arrangement and functionality.

  • Exposure to moving equipment
  • Inside work
  • Heat may exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Humidity may exceed 80%
  • Noise may exceed 85dB+



Physical Characteristics

  • Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, up to 75%
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 60 pounds)
  • Occasional typing/keyboarding/preparing documents, voice- assisted as needed



Education and Experience

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • 2+ years' experience operating powered forklifts.
  • Forklift certification per OSHA standards.
  • At least 18 years of age to operate a forklift.



Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis's total compensation package. The hourly base pay range for this role is estimated to be $18 to $22.
