Position Summary

EBI Consulting is seeking a full-time Senior Project Scientist in the Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) Services Group to conduct Phase II Subsurface Investigation and remediation projects for commercial real estate, lending, telecommunications, industrial, institutional, and public sector clientele. This position requires a strong understanding of and experience with site characterization, environmental sampling techniques and methodologies (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air, etc.), data analysis, remediation technologies, state and Federal environmental regulatory framework, and managing drilling subcontractors and laboratories. Additional experience is required in transactional due diligence associated with private sector and financial institutions, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs). Experience conducting response actions and preparing regulatory submittal reports under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) 310 CMR 40.00 is a plus.

This position reports to the Senior Project Manager and is designated in office, with the understanding the successful candidate will need to come into our Burlington, MA corporate headquarters on days when they are not in the field. This position will travel to client sites primarily in the Boston, MA metro market approximately 50% of the week, so candidates need to already be established in this area and comfortable with both travel and working in an office setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Conduct subsurface investigation and remediation field activities, including environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air, etc.) and manage drilling subcontractors and laboratories
  • Prepare technical report deliverables with supporting documentation (site figures, tables, appendices, etc.), including preparing regulatory submittal reports under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) 310 CMR 40.00
  • Travel on short notice (one week or less) will be required at times



Qualifications and Capabilities



  • Bachelor's degree or higher from accredited college or university in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, including Phase II Subsurface Investigation and remediation projects
  • Specific experience conducting response actions and preparing regulatory submittal reports under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) 310 CMR 40.00
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations & Rescue (HAZWOPER) Training Certification is required
  • Experience in ASTM/AAI transactional due diligence associated with private sector and financial institutions, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); must meet ASTM E 1527 qualifications as an Environmental Professional (EP) Certifications / Licenses
  • Specific registration credentials are not required. However, Professional Geologist (P.G.), Professional Engineer (P.E.), or similar professional environmental certification/licensure is a plus
  • Asbestos Inspector Certification is a plus
  • Advanced understanding of, and experience with, site characterization, environmental sampling techniques and methodologies (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air, etc.), data analysis, and remediation technologies
  • Experience with soil, groundwater, and soil vapor remediation systems, including in-situ and ex-situ treatment, chemical and biological applications, and sub-slab depressurization systems (SSDS)
  • Experience with dry cleaner risk assessment and closure; and UST, retail petroleum, and bulk terminal risk assessment and closure
  • Must have excellent organization and prioritization abilities, technical report writing, project management, time management, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with senior level management, regulators, and clients
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and to operate in a fast-paced environment
