I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
The Office of Emergency Management aims to provide a safe and secure campus for all members of the University community through best-in-class technological and physical infrastructure, proactive assessment and analysis, and a caring team of professionals dedicated to upholding the university's values with the highest degree of conscientiousness.

Reporting to the Director, Emergency Management, the Emergency Management Coordinator will assist the Director in establishing, implementing and maintain university-wide emergency management planning processes to support special events, incidents, mitigation, response, continuity, and recovery efforts.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Support the Director in the development and maintenance of plans, protocols, and policies for the University's emergency operations, preparedness, response, recovery, and continuity efforts.
  • Participate in a project team to write and review Incident Action Plans (IAPs) and Emergency Operation Plans (EOPs), incorporating diverse viewpoints and capabilities assessments.
  • Contribute to the development of resources consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and industry best practices.
  • Provide support to the design and development of university policies and plans.
  • Provide incident notification and share situational awareness with the Director, Emergency Management, and stakeholders.
  • Support the organization and facilitation of virtual and in-person planning meetings, under supervision.
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to create and deliver training based on newly created plans.
  • Develop team resources and conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews, as directed.
  • Assist in developing emergency operations center (EOC) processes and planning resources, and support the testing and maintenance of EOC equipment on a regular basis.
  • Participate in post-incident meetings to support the development of after-action reports (AAR), including lessons learned and recommendations.
  • Hold a position in the EOC during activations.
  • Serve on a rotating on-call schedule during non-business hours and holidays. Respond to emergencies during non-business hours and holidays.


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelors' degree in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision
  • Able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with tight deadlines
  • Detail-oriented, creative thinker with the ability to strategize and solve complex problems.
  • Experience in developing and implementing plans in emergency management organizations in higher education or at the local, state, or national level is preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively with local, state, or federal emergency management agencies is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

Hiring Range $51,455.52 - $70,708.76
