Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
In support of the mission of the
NCCU School of Law, the Law Library provides information services and resources that promote the performance of high-quality legal research activities by our faculty, students, staff and community. The Access Services Department ensures that the library is staffed; that the collection is kept up to date, properly managed, and easily searchable; and that all patron needs outside of Reference are handled quickly and efficiently. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary duties for this position include: staffing the circulation desk, answering questions, interpreting library and law school policies, circulating materials using an automated circulation system, maintaining course reserves, and providing professional customer service to all library patrons. In addition, this position will also be responsible for stacks maintenance, including shelving, shifting, and shelf-reading library materials. Further, this position has responsibility filing loose-leaf updates, microfiche, newsletters and advance notices. Records data related to library usage and collection maintenance tasks and compiles and submits a monthly report. Assists in monitoring the library to ensure that patrons comply with library and law school policies and closes/opens the library at designated times. Provide assistance monitoring and directing student workers. The schedule for this position includes night and weekend hours on a regular basis. Hours are subject to departmental needs and may change. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The successful candidate must possess: Knowledge of library circulation systems; ability to work with the public in a professional manner and experience providing customer service; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written communication; ability to interpret library, Law School, and University policies and procedures; ability to multi-task; ability to prioritize work tasks with minimal supervision; ability to work with diverse populations; ability to learn and apply new technologies; ability to monitor and direct the activities of student workers; ability to shelve and file library materials accurately; ability to lift 20 lbs., push/pull a loaded book truck, stoop and bend, climb a ladder/stool to retrieve materials from 8 ft. shelving, shift large portions of the library collection, and read spine labels at varying heights. |

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. |
