Westinghouse is looking for a Tool Room Technician to work at the Catawba Nuclear Power Station. This is a long term local hire position, which does not pay perdiem, or any relocation fees.In this position you will need to provide oversight for Tool Room, inventory, order, restock, distribute, test equipment, operate motorize pallet jack, operate forklift (stand-up/sit down), chemical inventory, print SDS labels.

Qualification Required:



  • Must meet minimum education requirements, High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to be forklift qualified and maintain qualifications. (Various Forklifts, Stand and Reach, Motorize Pallet Jack)
  • Training requirements for unescorted access to the nuclear facility to include Radiation Worker Training (RWT)
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. (heavy lifting required from time to time.)
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Proactively support Westinghouse and Duke Energy programs, policies, procedures, strategic plans, and specific goals.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written communications, technical requirements, procedures, and directives associated with working at a nuclear power plant.
  • Commitment to personal safety and industrial safety.
  • Serve as the on-site technical and administrative subject matter expert for their area of expertise for their group.
  • Perform pre-job briefs at the start of the shifts and scheduled work activities. Perform shift turnover duties with assigned personnel.
  • Perform and ensure their group performs TAM/2-minute drills in the field prior to performance of work activities.
  • Understand and promote a Safety Conscious Work Environment.
  • Perform daily leadership and direction to assigned personnel in a positive coaching and mentoring role.
  • Provide feedback to personnel through continuous field observations and pre-job briefs. Document performance of observations, both positive and negative. (Outage)

  • E-TRAC access for SDS labels
  • Non- Radiological Sentinel access
  • Issue, Reconcile and Order Filler Material- Enter in Codeman Welding System for inventory control
  • Issue, return and stock respirators, cartridges and adapters and send for cleaning by creating Material Delivery Request.
  • Print SDS labels for the site and tool room chemical inventory
  • Order Chemicals that are stocked in the tool room chemical inventory
  • Perform Annual and Quarterly Chemical Inspections and document to completion through work order
  • Perform monthly housekeeping inspections and document to completion
  • Issue, return and inspect M&TE
  • Perform annual and pre- outage fall protection Inspections and remove any damaged from service and document to completion through work order
  • Perform daily walkdowns of tool rooms/storage areas for housekeeping and safety concerns
  • Bump/Calibrate 4 gas monitors for general use and security use
  • Order calibration gas for all types of monitors as needed or when expire
  • Perform daily forklift inspections prior to use
  • Perform daily motorized pallet jack inspections prior to use
  • Move material as needed via stand-up forklift, motorized pallet jack or standard pallet jack.
  • Perform quarterly continuity test and inspections on electrically powered tools per the color code chart and document to completion through work order.
  • Issue and stock WBGT Heat stress meters and ensure to not exceed shelf life
  • Stock and maintain electrical worker first aid kits and reorder items as they expire
  • Stock all consumables, PPE, hand tools and power tools for issue from the cabinets and shelves
  • Ensure all high-risk tools are labeled with the appropriate sticker
  • Maintain all silica tools and equipment for issue
  • Remove any wood pallets weekly from supplies coming in for inventory
  • Generate work requests for any damaged tools to be repaired if repairable
  • Enter tools into inventory through Indysoft Tool tracking program in the absence
  • Maintain after hours / weekend tool issue logs for hot and cold side
  • Sign exit paperwork for all Out-Processing individuals
  • Support outage work 24/7 coverage
  • Support emergent work- weekends & nights as needed by a weekly on call/ duty list (Monday - Sunday)
  • Perform and document field observations in the Observation System weekly (Outage).
  • Model expected personnel behaviors and technical skill; set the expectation and standards for assigned personnel and hold assigned personnel accountable to meet established expectations and standards


Work Schedule

40-hour work week-Monday-Thursday operating 10-hour days during online periods. Ability to support on-call as needed and increased work hours including overtime during Outage periods, extended work week operating 12-hour days, 6-days a week.

Pay rate shall be discussed during the interview process. Selected candidate will be eligible for contract specific benefits which include medical, dental, 401k, paid holiday, and vacation time (PTO).
