Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Business Center is located in Moran Commons, Room 106, and is comprised of the SpartanCard Center and Spartan Mail.
The SpartanCard Center produces an interactive campus ID that connects students to services utilizing a variety of technologies and allows both financial and access transactions. The SpartanCard provides students, faculty, and staff a multitude of services ranging from serving as the official ID of UNCG, to checking out a library book, to grabbing breakfast at the Dining Hall, to providing card access to restricted buildings. The SpartanCard also has a debit account feature for Stored Value. The SpartanCard office is responsible for managing and maintaining the Transact system, which provides campus with contactless, credential-based access, and integrated Point-of-Sale payment options.
Spartan Mail is a fully functional post office, a US Postal Service Contract Postal Unit ( CPU), providing efficient processing and distribution of student, faculty, staff, community, departmental, bulk, and international mail. As a CPU, Spartan Mail accepts prepaid parcels, sells stamps, meters and/or applies postage to outgoing parcels, processes Priority/Priority Express parcels, enters postage data needed to and processes international parcels, and advises customers on said activities.
Position Summary

  • Serve as system administrator for the University installation of Transact System Enterprise (TSE) and affiliated systems, as well as updated technologies in the future. (Transact is the accepted System of Record for Stored Value transactions, POS transactions, Meal Plan transactions, and Door Access transactions made within the Transact environment at the University. The position incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day operations, reporting, training, and hardware/software troubleshooting. Additionally, updating the system, as needed, in conjunction with Transact Campus Inc. (and its direct partners or subsidiaries), University ITS, and the Business Center Director. )
  • Operate and serve as subject matter expert for IDMS and attached card printers. (IDMS is the ID card issuance software used to create or update student, employee, and affiliated person photos, as well as vendor records for the SpartanCard, the accepted Card of Record for University Identification. The position incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day operations, minor updates, care & maintenance of both PC & printers, training of student and full-time employees, and troubleshooting. )
  • Serve as Business Center Retail Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school and one year in the field of technology related to the positions' role. Computer coursework may be substituted year for year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



  • Journey level requires an additional six (6) months experience
  • Advanced level requires an additional one (1) year of experience

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Experience to include daily operations & reporting.
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems and a desire to advance that system knowledge.
  • Experience with Transact Campus Inc applications (TSE, related-Door Access, Point-of-Sale, etc.)
