Widener University is currently seeking an Assistant Football Coach as a Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Assistant in the Department of Athletics. Reporting to the Head Football Coach, this role provides support to the Widener University Football program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:



  • Reporting to the Defensive Coordinator the position will assist the Head Football Coach in the leadership and direction of the program while working with the Defensive Coordinator coaching the linebackers and special teams.
  • Work in conjunction with the Defensive Coordinator for practice planning presentation and coaching.
  • Organize practice sessions, participate in the preparation of student-athletes for competition and provide positive guidance to students off the field.
  • Individual and group coaching, presentation and player evaluation related to position and game and practice planning.
  • Communication with coaching staff regarding player development game planning.
  • Communication with coaching staff related to academic monitoring of all assigned student-athletes within position group.
  • Establish and maintain a positive public relations image for the program, the department and Widener University.
  • Serve as a role model for student-athletes both on and off the field. Develop good rapport and/or working relationship with students, department members, faculty and alumni.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes committed to academic and athletic excellence.
  • Maintain competency of NCAA rules as it applies to their duties.


Secondary responsibilities:



  • Adhere to Widener University departmental, NCAA and university policies.
  • Maintain competency of NCAA rules as it applies to their duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics in accordance with the Department of Athletics, University, Middle Atlantic Conference, NCAA, and other related association rules and regulations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated experience in collegiate football coaching.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.


Preferred:



  • Demonstrated experience in collegiate recruiting, retention and academic monitoring.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:



  • Nontraditional hours - weekends, nights, days etc.
  • Ability to lift more than 40lbs
