Job Summary
The Windows Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Windows-based infrastructure in physical and virtual operating systems to ensure continuous optimal performance of enterprise systems and provides third level support.

Primary Objectives
  • Develop and deploy Windows-based server environments to meet organizational needs.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and support for hardware and software issues including work instructions.
  • Maintain stability, security, and performance of Windows systems through regular monitoring, maintenance, and patching.
  • Implement and maintain virtualization solutions using Hyper-V and VMware to enhance system efficiency and scalability.
  • Manage and optimize Azure cloud services, including virtual machines, storage, and networking.
  • Stay informed about the latest industry trends and technologies to recommend and implement system enhancements.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administer, organize, and maintain Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) ensuring secure access, implementing authentication policies and managing MFA and SSO.
  • Administer, install, and troubleshoot hardware, peripherals, services, directories, storage, and components in accordance with standards and operational requirements.
  • Deploy and manage Azure IaaS such as virtual machines, storage, and networking.
  • Support development teams with Azure PaaS including deployment and management of Azure App Services.
  • Participate in installs, upgrades, and decommissions of designated systems, products, and infrastructure.
  • Schedule, perform, and monitor daily system backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media. Perform data recovery as needed.
  • Participate in weekly rotations of after-hours on-call support.
  • Track, prioritize, document, communicate, and resolve support requests using ServiceDesk ticket system.
  • Participate in daily operational and security monitoring of the server systems.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted groups.
  • Monitor and maintain software licensing and maintenance agreements.
  • Lead system projects relating to upgrades and migrations.
  • Manage physical servers and VMs in accordance with corporate standards and procedures.
  • Provide second and third tier technical support.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation detailing system configurations, procedures and processes.
  • Automate tasks using PowerShell.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer related field or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and acceptable DMV record required
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required
  • Microsoft certifications in Azure, Office365, MS System Center Configuration Manager, and Systems Administration preferred
Work Experience
  • 5+ years' relevant Microsoft Windows system engineering or administration experience required
  • 5+ years of advanced administration of virtualized environments with corporate management software required
  • 5+ years of administration of Microsoft Azure Active Directory and Office365 systems required
  • 5+ years using PowerShell to automate management of systems required
  • 5+ years of proficient administration of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager including Intune required
  • Applied experience in administration of Windows 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022 servers required
  • Experience using imaging, scripting, remote access tools, consoles, and desktop management tools strongly preferred

  • Applied knowledge of information security, compliance, and IT audit requirements.
  • Ability to design, document, and implement scalable and secure enterprise IT solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Experience leading system upgrades, migrations, and performance optimization projects.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, materials, and knowledge bases.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues using innovative research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate on cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and details to a non-technical audience, including leadership.

  • Demonstrated intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:

20% Must be able to travel independently to U.S. locations including Hawaii and drive unaccompanied at ports and terminals.
