Job Description

ABOUT JEFFERSON METHODIST HOSPITAL:

Jefferson Methodist Hospital, part of the Jefferson Health system, is a leading community-based hospital in South Philadelphia, committed to excellence in patient care, education, and innovation. As an integral part of the Thomas Jefferson University academic network, the hospital provides high-quality pathology and laboratory services in collaboration with the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.

THE POSITION:

We are seeking a Per Diem Pathologist to support our pathology services at Jefferson Methodist Hospital. The ideal candidate will be proficient in general surgical pathology and cytopathology, with the ability to manage a diverse case mix in a community hospital setting.

Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and interpret a range of surgical pathology and cytopathology cases.
  • Perform intraoperative consultations (frozen sections) as needed.
  • Provide timely and accurate pathology reports to referring physicians.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Jefferson Health locations.
Teaching & Research (Optional):
  • Opportunity to mentor and teach residents and medical students.
  • Academic affiliation with Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and research initiatives.
Schedule & Call:
  • Flexible per diem shifts based on departmental needs.
  • No overnight call.
THE DEPARTMENT:
  • High-volume pathology service covering a wide range of cases.
  • Access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities with advanced diagnostic technology.
  • Strong collaboration with Jefferson Health's pathology subspecialty teams.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Pathology residency.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
  • Active or eligible medical license in Pennsylvania.
  • Strong diagnostic skills in general pathology; subspecialty expertise is a plus.
