The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Technology Ventures will lead and drive the strategic direction for technology-related investments, partnerships, and innovation within the organization. The AVP will work closely with senior leadership to identify and capitalize on emerging technology trends inclusive of Artificial Intelligence (AI), spearheading initiatives that drive the company's technology portfolio, enhance growth, and create value. This role will identify and implement AI-driven solutions to optimize business processes, collaborate with cross-functional teams, stay abreast of innovation trends, build an internal capability, and foster partnerships with external companies. As such, this role will work closely with Acute Division Leaders, Behavioral Health Division Leaders, and Corporate Department heads to align new technology innovations with business goals. This role involves overseeing the development of new partnerships, and technology investments, contributing to the overall innovation strategy of the organization. This role will provide overall direction to our Crossings subsidiary and continue the commercialization of UHS custom clinical information technology, ERP application enhancements and other systems and services as defined. Key Responsibilities include:
- Provides strategic leadership and vision for UHS technology assessment and utilization. Within that framework, collaborates with the executive team to develop and implement technology usage that aligns with business objectives.
- Surveys the healthcare technology marketplace to identify and assess emerging technologies including AI that have the potential to drive business advantages.
- Provides insights on technology innovation and market opportunities, shaping the company's long-term technology venture roadmap.
- From a technology perspective, leads and manages the company's ownership and venture investment activities.
- Builds and maintains relationships with technology startups / strategic partnerships, private equity, and venture capital firms.
- Builds a capable and flexible team that will adapt as necessary to ensure successful outcomes. Creates a positive and rewarding environment for team members that assists with the ability to attract and retain effective talent.
- Directs the overall commercialization of UHS assets via the Crossings Healthcare subsidiary. This includes aggressive expansion of products to include mobile apps and other new areas.
- Defines and implements effective approaches to maintenance that enable UHS to provide customer support when and where needed but avoids resolving issues that the customers should be capable of handling. This may include different service offerings (Self Maintenance vs. Traditional Maintenance).
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- 15 years+ healthcare information technology experience required.
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- Knowledge of the healthcare industry technology start up market
- Understanding of private equity investment processes, ownership, startups and divestiture (aligned with UHS Corporate Development)
- Understanding of current and possible future trends in healthcare technology, including AI, cloud computing, automation, and big data analytics.
- Detailed knowledge of UHS' existing and future information technology environment including Oracle/Cerner Millennium application and technology structures, product life cycle development and customer service.
- Ability to attract, motivate and retain high performing individuals.
- Ability to oversee business development activities (Sales Cycle) and close new deals.
- Familiarity with AI-driven cybersecurity measures, AI or innovation governance.
- Able to commercialize / package existing UHS customizations and innovations.
- Able to create repeatable processes for implementations and oversee maintenance activity.
- Able to communicate clearly and respectfully with Executives, Physicians, Nurses and all other clinical personnel.
- Learns quickly, takes constructive feedback on performance.
- Stays focused on the job with attention to detail and produces desired outcomes.
- Experience with the Oracle/Cerner technology environment preferred.
