Exempt Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY Involved in the activities of the accounting department. Assist as appropriate with fixed assets, project accounting and general accounting activities. Interpret and analyze general ledger financial information including account reconcilements. Maintain comprehensive thorough knowledge of accounting and financial internal controls, accounting, and audit objectives. Develop and create queries, work instructions, and analysis tools. Sustain technical and in-depth user knowledge of the Oracle accounting system for testing and upgrades and recommendations for improvements. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS PROJECT ACCOUNTING Perform opening and closing functions for capital projects especially point capital, developer and MRRP projects. This will include analyzing and balancing costs, defining, and assigning assets, determining appropriateness of costs, and determining whether Louisville Water or others are responsible for the costs according to accounting principles and guidelines. Manage fleet process as it relates to project costs along with performing month-end close for project accounting. Learn and stay abreast with development of accounting applications, especially Oracle modules for projects, general ledger, inventory, and fixed assets. Serve as back-up for other positions in Project Accounting. GENERAL ACCOUNTING Prepare month end and year end journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned accounts. Provide requested documentation during annual audit. Serve as backup for select functions of the accounting supervisor position. Assist with accounts payable responsibilities as assigned. OTHER Maintain knowledge, understanding and interpretation of GAAP and all policies and procedures and ensure compliance as it relates to fixed assets and project accounting functions and general accounting. Take ownership of processes assigned and ensure policies, procedures, work instructions, etc. are properly followed, documented, and maintained. Communicate regularly and effectively with customers, both internal and external. Apply appropriate trouble shooting skills and resolve problems with accounting and accounting systems. Identify, recommend, implement, and document department and operational improvements. Produce ad hoc reports as required and/or requested. Participate in department and cross-functional teams to achieve individual and team goals, as well as other Company initiatives. Cross-train and provide back-up support to others in the department. Perform other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS Generally, works a 40-hour week in an office environment. Additional hours can be expected to meet the deliverables associated with the month end financial closing deliverables, the annual financial statement audit, and the annual report preparation. Occasional travel between various locations will be required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; and three (3) years' experience as an Accountant or Financial Analyst; and Valid driver's license.
