This is a full-time, overtime eligible position on the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen State College.
Position Purpose
This position develops, organizes, and provides outreach and recruitment to the community and potential students, as well as coordinating student retention programming and assisting the Native Pathways Program ( NPP) Student Governance Council. The position collaborates with faculty and staff for the agenda and implementation of the NPP House of Welcome Weekend intensives. This position supports the NPP Director and Assistant Director, focusing on student success.
About the Native Pathways Program
The Native Pathways Program offers lower and upper division programs with a 12-credit core interdisciplinary curriculum leading to an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree. This rigorous, cohort learning program is for Native/Indigenous students and others invested and interested in Native/Indigenous scholarship, history, and contemporary issues. The 12 credit NPP core program offers an intensive evening and weekend program for place-bound and schedule-bound students at place-based sites in Olympia, Tacoma, Port Angeles (Peninsula College Longhouse), and at Quinault; the NPP Salish Seas Hybrid site offers students a remote learning option, along with weekend program. Most NPP students, regardless of site, attend three weekend intensives (Saturday & Sunday) at the Evergreen Longhouse each quarter.
Nature and Scope
Essential Functions
Outreach/Recruitment/Current Student Support (50%)

  • Act as the first point of contact for requests for program information via phone, email, and in person.
  • Give presentations to educate groups of prospective students about NPP, Evergreen, and curriculum.
  • Distributing outreach/recruitment materials to tribal nations and community partners.
  • Meet regularly with internal stakeholders as well as members of the public, prospective students, and their families in person or remotely to provide information about NPP and assist with the application process.
  • Assist current students with selecting programs and courses and maintain digital records of academic plans.
  • Organize student recruitment events, including set up, collect sign-in sheets, track attendance, hand out materials, and share information about NPP.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff in other offices on campus, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration and Records, and Academic and Career Advising.
  • Coordinate with Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration and Records, and Academic and Career Advising to identify and resolve various student issues within NPP.
  • Coordinate with faculty, NPP staff, and Deans Area staff to ensure all offerings are properly represented in the Curriculum Management Database and Academic Catalog.
  • Provide program/curriculum information to Academic and Career Advising for dissemination to students.
  • Provide students, families, staff, and the public with general information about financial aid options and scholarship opportunities and maintain the Native/Indigenous student scholarship binder.
  • Collect and submit registration and campus change forms on behalf of students.
  • Collect quantitative data and present quarterly reports to NPP Director regarding NPP student activities, events, and outreach/recruitment happenings.


Administrative Support (50%)

  • Provide support for approximately ten faculty, NPP leadership, student governance events and activities, NPP Weekend intensives, NPP speakers and workshop leaders, events with NPP Student Governance, and other events, such as the Beading Circle and the Culture Cave study jams; depending on the event, support duties may include making logistical preparations, reserving space, media set up, processing honorariums, ordering food and beverages, set up/take down, gathering information and supplies, printing materials, making travel arrangements, making flyers/promotional materials and social media posts, collecting fundraising money, and running errands.
  • Direct NPP student workers and volunteers in their regular work as well as special events.
  • Make purchases for food and beverages, cultural art supplies, office supplies, NPP promotional items, and other items upon request; collect and scan receipts for processing by NPP leadership and fiscal staff.
  • Monitor various NPP budgets with respect to program activities, ensuring purchases and receipts are properly catalogued; and work with the Academic Budget Office to take corrective action where necessary.
  • Take notes during weekly faculty meeting, NPP Student Governance meetings, and as assigned by Director.
  • Maintain NPP calendars (academic, community, and outreach/recruitment) and disseminate meeting information to promote participation.
  • Support the NPP alum council and promote its growth by making meeting arrangements, sending invitations, tracking participation, and maintaining contact information.
  • Make travel arrangements employees attending conferences.
  • Input information in student database for potential and current students and alum; produce reports from the student database upon request of NPP leadership.
  • Look up information in Banner upon request of NPP leadership.
  • Create quarterly newsletter on paper and electronically by generating, collecting, and arranging content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the NPP Director or Assistant Director.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration and Records, and Academic and Career Advising processes with the ability to convey this information to current and prospective students.
  • Knowledge of and ability to convey the NPP mission, academic statements, and current and future program/course offerings.
  • Knowledge of local tribes and tribal protocols and excellent community relation skills.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
  • Skill in organizing and maintain manual and electronic records and files.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ability to prepare materials and present program information at meetings and presentations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer and technology skills, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint), Canvas, Prezi, and social media platforms; ability to learn and apply new technology.
  • Ability to successfully work as part of a team and independently as needed.
  • Strong problem-solution skills.
  • Ability to have reliable transportation to work on campus and at off campus events/locations as assigned, including some evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of experience working with Native/Indigenous and diverse students, preferably in a high school or college setting.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
  • This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
