Hardware Staging Technician

Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Hardware Staging Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for staging of SIS projects and computer laboratory environments. This work includes pre-stage cleaning, unpackaging, physical setup, connections and wiring, and disassembling and repackaging complex Information Technology (I.T.) systems. Typical equipment includes large monitors, computer servers, workstations, network switches, and cyber security appliances installed in 19" I.T. racks. This role requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure all wiring is connected in accordance with approved drawings and includes performing quality control checks, working to support hardware engineers, and occasionally operating a forklift. Additionally, the technician may occasionally be required to build control panels, which involves cutting, drilling, mounting equipment, wiring, and testing in accordance with engineering drawings.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Unpackage, physically set up/assemble and connect hardware components in accordance with engineering sketches, plans and connection drawings.
  • Assemble and connect complex I.T. systems from scratch, ensuring all components are properly integrated.
  • Follow approved wiring diagrams and schematics to ensure accurate and efficient setup.
  • Perform quality control checks of hardware to ensure proper functionality.
  • Promptly inform Hardware Engineers of any discrepancies encountered, and provide detailed records of any deviations made from all setups, configurations, and any issues encountered.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers and other IT team members to ensure seamless integration of hardware into the overall IT infrastructure.
  • Occasionally operate a forklift to move and position heavy equipment as needed.
  • Occasionally build control panels which involves cutting, drilling, mounting equipment, wiring, and testing in accordance with engineering drawings.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company policies.
  • Be accountable for and accurately track time spent on assigned projects.



Qualifications:



  • Associate in applied science for electronics engineering technology or similar.
  • Proven experience as a Hardware Technician or similar role.
  • General electrical and electronic systems knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware, servers, network switches, and other I.T. components.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use basic hand/electric tools and electrical/electronic equipment such as:


    • Multimeters
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Soldering iron
    • Wire crimpers/cutters & ability to make custom length ethernet (CAT6) cables
    • Ethernet testers


  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools proficiently.
  • Forklift Certification.



Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment as needed.
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including data centers and office settings.
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
