About the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Biological Sciences undergraduate degree programs include 4-year BS and 5-year BS/MS programs in Biology and Bioinformatics. Graduate degree programs include: MS and PhD in Biology, MS and PhD in Bioinformatics, MS and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering as well as PhD in Quantitative Biosciences, Ocean Sciences and Engineering, Applied Physiology, and Dual Degree Doctorate of Physical Therapy/ Doctor of Philosophy. Research strengths include: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Ecology, Evolution, Integrative Physiology, Microbial Dynamics and Infection, Neuroscience, Molecular and Cell Biology, Molecular Biomedical Sciences. Job Summary

The School of Biological Sciences and the School of Psychology at the Georgia Institute of Technology (www.gatech.edu) in Atlanta Georgia invites applications for an open rank, non-tenure track Academic Professional or Senior Academic Professional instructional faculty position in Neuroscience, beginning Spring/Summer 2025. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. The position involves student advising, teaching, course, and curriculum development dedicated to the undergraduate degree program in neuroscience.

This is a full-time position in the Non-tenure Track Academic faculty career track with provisions for promotion in rank. The position may be filled at the Academic Professional or Senior Academic Professional rank, depending on the prior experience of the individual. Depending on their expertise, successful candidates will join the faculty of the School of Biological Sciences or the School of Psychology.

The Primary responsibilities for this position will be student advising, teaching, laboratory coordination, course and curriculum development, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants.

Required Qualifications

This position vacancy is an open-rank search. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with non-tenure track academic faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenure-track-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines

For all ranks, a PhD in Neuroscience or a closely related field is required.

Academic Professional

  • Significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional
  • Quality of performance and potential development must be recognized by peers

Senior Academic Professional

  • Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field
  • Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local)
  • Successful and measurable related experience
  • Five (5) years or more as an Academic Professional (or equivalent title)
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will also have a strong quantitative and/or computational neuroscience background and interest in innovative undergraduate instruction. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in student advising, mentoring, or other student success activities.

Student Success Criteria:

  • The ability to teach and mentor a various student body
  • The ability to promote a welcoming educational/work environment
  • The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education
  • The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a distinct student body
  • The ability to adopt teaching strategies that support the learning and success of all students
