Basic Function |
In partnership with leadership, the total rewards specialist is responsible for designing, administering, and communicating an organization's comprehensive employee benefits and compensation package, including compensation, health insurance, retirement plans, time off and other perks, ensuring they are competitive, and aligned with the university's strategic goals, and acting as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding total rewards program. |
Essential Job Functions |
- Administer employee insurance programs including life, disability, and health insurance plans
- Administer employee retirement plans that may include the university's 403(b) plan, persona saving plans, and deferred compensation programs.
- Advise and informs employees of changes and developments related to benefits including eligibility, coverage, and provisions.
- Researches and compares incentive compensation plans offered by demographically comparable organizations, assesses competitors' plans and makes recommendations for enhancements or improvements required to keep the organization's plans competitive and effective.
- Supports leave administration.
- Facilitates accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers.
- Completes records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations and policies.
- Conducts employee surveys, census, and other research and demographic efforts required to collect accurate quotes from benefits providers.
- Identifies and selects benefits carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits, and prior experience.
- Monitors administrators' and insurance carriers' reports to ensure the organization's compliance with plan requirements.
- Ensure the University and plan's compliance with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA and ERISA.
- Maintains knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors related to ensuring the organization provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in compensation and benefits administration.
- Provide support and guidance to employees on benefits enrollment, claims, and general compensation inquiries.
- Communicate benefits and compensation updates effectively to employees, ensuring they understand available options and any changes to programs.
- Assist with the development of benefits and compensation communications, including new hire benefits guide, newsletters, and other informational materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
Required: Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field. Relevant experience can be substituted for education. Minimum of five years of experience in benefits, compensation and /or total rewards.

Preferred Qualifications |

- Experience administering compensation and benefits programs in higher education
SHRM - CP or PHR preferred- Proficient in Excel and data analysis.
- Experience with Workday or other human capital management systems.
- Able to independently analyze and present data and information.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment regulations and laws.
- A zeal for collaborating with and helping others; customer-service focused; helpful and positive attitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and compensation
- Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with a wide diversity of key stakeholders.

Must be comfortable in an office setting, operating general office equipment, including lifting boxes up to 20lbs. |
