Summary Description:

The purpose of this position is to be the key interface between sales, marketing, operations, technology, CTS, and customer service for new grade development, existing product applications, and optimization of current customer profitability and product solutions for a given product family within Billerud. The individual is responsible for day-to-day management of the product line as well as long-term viability of the product line-up with the overall goal of optimizing product line contribution. This extends from increasing the profitability of existing products to developing new products for the company. Contributions of the product line are improved by developing ideas based on industry experience and contact with customers and prospects. Key internal customers are the sales, marketing, and operational groups. The key actions and outputs are decisions and recommendations that contribute to the health of the product line.

Deliverables include, but are not limited to, competitive benchmarking, customer perception studies, and profitability analysis for the product line. A Product Manager needs to possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. They must enjoy spending time with customers to understand their problems and find innovative solutions for the broader market.

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities:

  • Competitive Positioning - Responsible for constant renewal of the product line based on Customers' needs, competitive moves, and technological innovation. Understand the positioning of the product by conducting competitive benchmarking exercises and market analysis.
  • Product Development - Lead the product development efforts for the product family.
  • Manufacturing optimization - Manage service levels and scheduling flexibility between machine assets and manipulate these systems for maximum total system profitability.
  • Sales support - Provide analytical support for both day-to-day and long-term evaluation of customer inquiries. Educate sales on manufacturing capabilities and identify opportunities to develop the best possible solution to maximize profit. Assist marketing in the development of tailored value propositions, particularly customized product solutions.
  • Customer Technical Support - Serve as the primary interface with customers and the mill on technical issues and complaints.
Personal qualities

Required Experience and Education:

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Prefer BA/BS degree in Packaging Engineering, Paper Engineering/Science, Graphic Arts, Chemistry or equivalent experience including post-secondary education in sciences, technology, engineering, graphic arts, and management.
  • Experience in mill operations and customer exposure.
  • Experience in product management, quality, or operations; packaging, paper, converting preferred.
  • Strong priority setting skills and ability to handle numerous assignments at one time.
  • The position will require an estimated 25% - 50% overnight travel and at times up to 75% overall travel.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and understanding of folding carton converting and filling processes
  • Flexibility to travel as required to support customer requirements
  • Extensive network of contacts available to support a wide array of technical and manufacturing related challenges
  • Must be competent with email, Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of processes involved in servicing and supporting customer sales
  • Ability to influence and effect change across multiple parts of the organization
  • Work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfill position responsibilities
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
