New Hanover County is looking for a part-time Collections Assistant to join the Cape Fear Museum Department.
The Cape Fear Museum collects, preserves and interprets objects relating to the history, science, and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear. The Museum makes those objects and their interpretation available to the public through educational exhibitions and programs.
The Collections Assistant will work with the Curator in a variety of tasks related to managing the museum's permanent collection. Essential duties for this role include:
- Perform collections management tasks related to the ongoing maintenance of the permanent collection - conduct condition reports, prepare artifacts for storage, conduct object research, photograph and scan artifacts, number artifacts, and create object records
- Maintain records in collections management database (Proficio) - enter data, update and improve information in existing records
Other duties for this role include:
- Assist museum staff with installation and de-installation of exhibits when necessary
- Perform other duties as required

Hours: Monday - Friday, Casual Part Time : 19 hours a week
Employment Type: Part-time, non-exempt
Salary Information: The salary for this position is $
17.4639/hour. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
- Knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the functions of the role and successfully perform the essential duties, with 4 years of experience in a similar role or performing similar duties.
- Experience working with museum or special collections
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work within a team structure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in word processing and database programs
