The University of North Carolina Wilmington (
UNCW) is one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina (
UNC). The Division of Academic Affairs is the organizational unit at
UNCW that houses the academic and administrative units charged with evolving, advancing, and operationalizing the core academic mission of the institution. Academic Affairs achieves this charge through a commitment to the principle of shared governance and collaboration with the other organizational divisions of
UNCW: the Division of Business Affairs, the Division of Student Affairs, the Chancellor's Division, and University Advancement. Academic Affairs is the primary division responsible for delivering the teaching, research, and service mission. Through academic policies and practices consistent with sound research, theory, and methods, Academic Affairs provides a wide array of scholarly programs and leadership that embody excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, and creative work, as well as service to local, regional and global communities consistent with the institution's strategic objectives. As of February 2025, the division comprises five colleges, three major centers, and seven functional areas that support faculty, staff, and students. Academic Affairs represents approximately 75% of the university budget and about 62% of the university workforce. The Office of the Provost is the central administrative office responsible for the coordination and leadership of the division of Academic Affairs. A key functional area within the Office of the Provost is "Operations and Strategy." Led by the Associate Provost for Administration and Resource Management (AP), this unit provides support in areas related to budgeting, strategic planning, tactical operations across functional areas, communications, and other matters that allow the Office of the Provost to function at a high level. |

Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Executive Assistant coordinates day-to-day activities that support the operations and strategy for the Office of Academic Affairs and specifically Administration and Resource Management. This includes providing coordination and support to various AA initiatives within the resource management team, primary administrative support of the Associate Provost of Administration and Resource Management and managing purchasing/travel/etc. processes. This position must be able to maintain positive relationships with campus partners and stakeholders to ensure initiatives continue to progress in a timely manner.
In support of the Office of the Provost, this position coordinates executive level searches, plans and executes events, maintains office supply inventory, and supporting facilities related requests for the suite. This position interacts with a wide variety of academic and campus leaders. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Preferred education, professional skills and experience |
- Experience in higher education.
- Ability to exercise judgement, tact, and discretion in dealing with a wide variety of administrators, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
- Solution-oriented with a can-do attitude; will seek out solutions to problems independently.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, organize work, and establish work priorities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and implement policy and procedural guidelines.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of resources in gathering information.
