The Facilities Maintenance and Grounds Assistant role works under general supervision and is responsible for conducting general building maintenance service calls, preventative maintenance (PM), and routine equipment checks. Performs basic building maintenance functions for assigned areas and location, ensuring that maintenance is achieved at lowest cost, consistent with service standards and the highest possible quality.

What You Will Do:

  • Assists with a range of building and office projects and repairs, including plumbing, electrical work, painting, and general facility maintenance.
  • Installs, runs, and maintains new electrical fixtures, generators, and other electrical equipment.
  • Conducts routine inspections of building equipment, ensuring optimal performance and notifying supervisors of major issues.
  • Completes repairs and adjustments to facility equipment such as wine pumps and cellar machinery, and communicates significant repair needs to managers.
  • Performs landscaping duties, including tree trimming, irrigation maintenance, and debris removal, ensuring fire protection standards are met.
  • Drives pomace trucks during harvest season and performs associated tasks.
  • Responds to routine and non-routine maintenance service calls across Gallo properties, performing necessary repairs and adjustments.
  • Supports preventative maintenance on basic electrical equipment, HVAC units, water coolers, and other minor building equipment.
  • Troubleshoots issues, logs service activities, and coordinates maintenance for winemaking, tasting rooms, and administrative areas.
  • Conducts inspections and maintains records for critical systems such as fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, power generators, and more, ensuring timely completion and compliance with regulations.

What You Will Need:

  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 3 years of maintenance/handyman experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Required to work one weekend per month as needed.
  • Candidate is required to have a valid driver's license, a safe driving record and reliable vehicle (if applicable) at the time of hire. This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving. If needed, candidate must obtain the appropriate state driver's license based on the position's location within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to lift 100 lbs as well as lift and carry 75lbs up flights of stairs and ladders.
  • Required to work on ladders, building rooftops and crawl through tight spaces (e.g. attics and basements).
  • Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Skilled in writing simple correspondence.
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 5 years of maintenance/handyman experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Facilities maintenance experience.
  • Post-secondary education coursework to include electronics and welding.
  • Possess strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience using and operating building maintenance equipment such as welders, torches, vacuum pumps, recovery systems, volt and amp meters, refrigeration gauges, computers, plumbing and light equipment.

Compensation:

  • HiringRange Posted: $25.96 / hr - $35.00/ hr
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
