Packaging Engineering Pillar Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Packaging Engineering Coordinator to oversee and manage various packaging responsibilities within our organization. This individual will play a key role in driving compliance with state regulations, enhancing systems for packaging data management, and aligning strategies across regions to optimize cost, quality, and supplier communication. The position involves leadership in project execution, system development, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

EPR Packaging Compliance:



  • Collaborate with pillar leads to ensure compliance with state-specific Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations
  • Develop and implement a new ICT system to meet diverse state requirements and replace existing system functionality


NA Global Packaging Lead:



  • Work with regional packaging leads to align packaging strategies across North America
  • Ensure packaging initiatives address cost efficiency, quality standards, and clear communication with suppliers


Packaging Systems & Continuous Improvement:



  • Lead ongoing improvements to processes and methods used to gather, report, and analyze packaging data
  • Develop and implement tools to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to packaging performance
  • Design and execute effective communication strategies for suppliers to meet packaging requirements.


Project Leadership:



  • Drive the execution of marketing and regulatory-driven packaging projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Ensure all packaging requirements are met for new product launches and regulatory compliance initiatives.


Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:



  • Maintain cross-functional collaboration with marketing, regulatory, and supply chain teams to ensure packaging goals are achieved
  • Foster relationships with key suppliers to maintain packaging quality and efficiency

Work Environment:

  • Occasional travel may be required to visit plant locations or suppliers.

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in logistics, packaging, or supply chain operations, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry
  • Strong understanding of packaging design, testing, and procurement processes
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, logistics, and senior leadership
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present complex information to senior leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to strict timelines



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations
  • Familiarity with ASTM standards for packaging materials and testing procedures (e.g., ASTM D4169 for performance testing of shipping containers)
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 (environmental management systems) and Zero Waste initiatives
  • Familiarity with automotive packaging standards and regulations (such as ISO/TS 16949 for quality management in automotive manufacturing)
  • Familiarity with transportation regulations, including the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) guidelines for packaging safety
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials shipping regulations for packaging, including DOT (Department of Transportation) and IATA (International Air Transport Association) rules
  • Experience with vehicle launch processes and associated packaging requirements
