About the Role

This position is for an experienced OT Engineer to support Woodsides' International Region operations. The OT Engineer works with cybersecurity, OT operations, asset engineering and the broader digital team to ensure the reliability, availability and security of critical OT systems.

Duties & Responsibilities




  • Responsible for the continual development and improvement of the defensibility of our OT architectural landscape.
  • Responsible for developing key performance indicators and metrics to quantify OT system reliability and performance.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing key maintenance strategies and procedures for OT (documented SAP work management).
  • Provide L3 infrastructure support and Cybersecurity incident response capabilities for OT.
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot complex multi-disciplinary issues Woodside OT environments.
  • Work closely with Cyber Defence Operations to ensure OT architecture designs are effective in terms of its defensibility and resiliency.
  • Contribute to OT project requirements and standards documentation.
  • Perform cybersecurity assessments (CSA) and design reviews for OT systems.
  • Responsible for producing and maintaining of OT asset registers, documentation and overall knowledge of the International OT environments.
  • Attend and witness factory and site acceptance (FAT/SAT) testing on behalf of the company as required.
  • Lead CHAZOP/Risk Assessment activities for OT assets.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with the changing threat landscape and suite of defender techniques and solutions that exist on the market, proving input into regional cybersecurity roadmap.
  • Provide oversight and assurance of OT maintenance activities to maintain compliance.
  • Develop and own the Continuous Improvement/Defect Elimination process for OT.
  • Attend regular online meetings across multiple time zones.
  • Provide input to weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to Digital leadership.
  • Safely lead and deliver change through the Management of Change (MoC) processes.
  • Responsible for technical approval as part of the ITIL change process.
  • Document, manage and remediate OT business risk.
  • Daily engagement with instrument, automation and control engineers daily
  • Relationship owner for OT operations team and IT service provider.
  • Develop Scopes of Work (SoW) for outsourcing uplift and improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration with global digital team for technical and process alignment.
  • Contribute to the creation of a culture of cyber awareness, cyber resiliency and cyber defense across the cyber team and adjacent teams i.e. IT, Surface Engineering, Asset Operations etc.



Skills & Experiences




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an Industry recognized institution.
  • Cybersecurity certifications will be highly regarded (e.g. CISSP, GRID, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).
  • Additional tertiary qualification in cybersecurity will be highly regarded.
  • Networking qualification such as Cisco CCNA will be highly regarded.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with managing or working on OT, control systems and related technologies.
  • Experience working for owner/operators in the Energy industry or similar.
  • Experience working with engineering risk management practices (JRA, JHA, HAZOP, LOPA, Risk Bowties, Performance Standards).
  • Strong communication, organizational skills with good stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong solution design, documentation and technical writing skills is essential.
  • Direct experience in OT, Industrial Control Systems (ICS), IEC 61511 Functional Safety, Process Safety and Critical Infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of frameworks including NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-82, NIST 800-207, NIST 800-160v1, IEC 62443, CIS, ISO 27001, SANS ICS/OT Critical Controls.
  • Understanding of industrial control systems including SCADA, PLC, DCS, HMI and instrumentation
  • Hands on experience designing and troubleshooting OT network switching, routing and firewalling including knowledge of common industrial protocols (VLAN, VRF, VPN tunnels)
  • Demonstratable real world experience managing AWS/Azure cloud environments
  • Experience with common OT infrastructure including servers, operating systems, active directory, virtualization, hyperconverged infrastructure (VxRail, Azure Stack HCI)
  • Knowledge and awareness of Mitre ATT&CK and specifically Mitre ATT&CK for ICS. This includes awareness of the TTPs of the top 5 known APTs associated with Energy / Oil & Gas companies
  • Understanding of reliability engineering principles and processes such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and FMEA
  • Understanding and application of applicable cybersecurity standards and frameworks e.g. (NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, NIST an82, NIST 800-207, NIST 800-160v1, IEC 62443, CIS, ISO 27001, SANS ICS/OT Critical Controls)
  • Ability to identify technically assess cybersecurity threats, risks and controls
  • Experience with an Energy or Resource sector Major Capital Project construction and commissioning is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting in an operations, maintenance and reliability engineering capacity within an Energy or Resource sector asset is highly desirable.
