Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The simulation center enhances nursing education by supporting skills lab training, remediation, and experiential learning. It offers realistic, hands-on experiences through simulations integrated across the nursing curriculum, from Foundations of Healthcare to advanced courses like Adult Health, Maternity, Pediatrics, and Mental Health. These simulations help students develop clinical skills, critical thinking, and decision-making, preparing them for safe, effective nursing practice. By bridging the gap between theory and real-world practice, the center ensures students are confident, competent, and ready for clinical settings. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
Specialize in the technologies and methods required for the planning, preparation, and execution of simulation-based healthcare training and educational events. As a key member of the simulation team, the Simulation Operation Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of simulation equipment, providing technical support for simulation scenarios, and assisting with various simulation-related tasks. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Internet and database usage.
- Strong knowledge of multimedia technology, audio/video equipment, and troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with networks, servers, decoders, and audio mixers.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and hardware systems.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Creative thinking and adaptability in identifying solutions to technical challenges.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, and healthcare operations.
- Previous simulation technician or healthcare experience (e.g., LPN, CNA, EMT, MA, or equivalent) preferred.

- Set up, break down, and prepare simulation equipment, including patient simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment, and audiovisual systems.
- Program, test, and run simulation scenarios, ensuring that equipment, manikins, standardized patients, and supplies are properly configured for desired learning outcomes.
- Provide training, technical support, and consultation to faculty and staff on the use of simulation technologies.
- Ensure proper functionality and configuration of multimedia systems, including servers, digital cameras, audio/video mixers, monitors, and medical equipment.
- Perform regular system audits and troubleshooting to ensure equipment is running efficiently and according to specifications.
- Collaborate with Simulation Lab Coordinator/Faculty to assess and improve the appropriateness and effectiveness of simulations.

Equipment Maintenance & Documentation
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on simulation equipment and technologies, including the cleaning and replacement of parts, and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Collaborate with the Simulation Lab Coordinator to manage inventory and track the usage of supplies and assets, including technology (laptops, desktops, mobile devices), software (simulation software, operating systems), and medical equipment (IV pumps, ventilators, AEDs, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Simulation Lab Coordinator/Faculty to develop and maintain case scenarios, setup guidelines, and simulation documentation to ensure effective operations.
- Assist with the implementation of new technologies and simulators, providing support in researching and purchasing equipment.
