JOB TITLE:

Mental Health Counselor

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming Counseling Center seeks a Mental Health Counselor to join our team. This position requires providing clinical counseling services to university students, consultations with university staff, faculty, students, and families, coordinating outreach programming to the University campus community, and assisting in training selected graduate students at the University Counseling Center.

This team member must participate in professional development opportunities and continuing education to maintain licensure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide professional, brief/short-term/time-effective mental health services, including group counseling, workshops, individual counseling/therapy, brief assessments, referrals as needed, and crisis services during office hours and after-hours.
  • Participate in instructing, training, supervising, and evaluating graduate assistants and practicum students in culturally informed methods and procedures of counseling and assessment and educational interventions for alcohol and other drugs.
  • Provide workshops, referrals, and crisis services during office hours and after-hours as needed, which requires flexibility and readiness to provide outreach activities during non-office hours.
  • Complete necessary and required clinical and administrative paperwork promptly and consistently with professional standards and office expectations.
  • Provide consultation to parents, faculty, and staff about mental health topics; provide presentations to various groups on campus on various mental health topics.
  • Attend administrative, training, and clinical meetings.
  • Collaborate with relevant campus and community partners (e.g., participate in coalition meetings, hiring committees).

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct evaluations of counseling; assist in research; prepare documents for the institution.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree

Experience: 2 years work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:
  • Valid State of Wyoming licensure as a mental health professional (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist) or the ability to successfully attain licensure within 45 days of University employment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College counseling experience. Knowledge of and experience providing group counseling, workshops, short-term/brief/time-effective therapy, and crisis intervention services. Expertise providing treatment for trauma survivors, including survivors of sexual assault.
  • Committed to providing high-level clinical work, outreach, training, wellness, and integration of developmental perspective in these endeavors.
  • Dedication to working as a team. Ability to manage conflict and communicate effectively during problem-solving. Knowledge of and interest in providing supervision to trainees.
  • This position requires knowledge and skills in the following specific areas: professional, ethical guidelines (e.g., maintaining confidentiality); knowledge of mental health screeners and assessments (e.g., CCAPS, PHQ); intervention (including group counseling and workshops), and referral;
  • To demonstrate effectiveness in building rapport with various people from various backgrounds; to work well interpersonally with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds; personal stress awareness and management; and clinical supervision.

To have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
