About the role

The Conference Acquisition Team is dedicated to supporting journals and series across Springer Nature by identifying the most influential and impactful conferences worldwide in applied sciences and beyond, and publishing content from those conferences. Our efforts help keep SN journals and book series at the forefront of their fields, with access to cutting-edge research and opportunities for collaboration with researchers and scholars from academic events.

The Associate Publisher / Publisher is responsible for identifying and acquiring high-quality content from leading conferences worldwide. The role combines a data-driven approach with people skills to commission Conference Special Issues/Topical Collections, Proceedings-as-books and article-level acquisition for Springer Nature journals and book series. Increasing commissioned content is an essential part of our strategy to grow our portfolio and as such, appropriate conference identification is critical. The Associate Publisher / Publisher also offers significant support to the conference team by establishing constructive working relationships with internal colleagues, conference organizers, and stakeholders.

Additionally, the individual is expected to contribute to the EEE larger team's projects as required.

This role can be in our New York, Philadelphia or Paris offices on a hybrid working model.

Role Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for planning and implementing commissioning content from conferences in applied sciences across the SN portfolio.

  • Partner with journals' and books' editorial teams so that conference commissioning strategy is congruent with journals and books development plans and is translated into a consistent flow of conference papers.

  • Attend external meetings to build close working relationships with conference organizers, society partners and the wider research community

  • Use a wide array of data analysis tools to carry out proper commissioning at conference level and article level.

  • Participate in the development of new technology (e.g., AIDA) aimed at supporting the acquisition efforts from conferences.

  • Assist in promoting team activities through virtual and face-to-face meetings, as well as other relevant platforms such as HIVE, to increase visibility and engagement.

  • Provide administrative support for the team staff

  • Contribute to drive the development of the conference acquisition team, the wider EEE and the overall Springer Nature Journals division.

  • Take part - and encourage your team to take part - in cross-departmental projects and/or company-wide task forces and working groups.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

Essential

  • Excellent English language skills

  • Have excellent networking skills

  • Be able to work on your own initiative and independently within a (virtual) team environment

  • Demonstrate diplomacy and assertiveness

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field

  • Sound analytical skills

  • Proactive attitude

  • Be capable of organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience in academic publishing of journals and books

  • Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people at all levels

  • (Optional SQL, Python, R or any other data analysis tools)

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Publisher: $64,350 - $70,000 | Publisher: $66,000 - $80,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
