As a Senior Product Manager focused on Localization, you will drive the strategy and execution for delivering high-quality, scalable multilingual experiences across our platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our content, assessments, and learning tools are effectively translated and localized, enabling seamless engagement for diverse global audiences. This role requires a deep understanding of AI-driven translation technologies, cultural nuances, and user experience considerations in the education sector. You will play a critical role in defining the end-to-end translation strategy, optimizing workflows, and ensuring the highest level of accuracy and engagement across languages. This role reports to the VP of Software Products directly and will have at least 2 product managers or product owners reporting to them.
Key Responsibilities:
* Define Strategy & Vision: Develop and drive the roadmap for machine translation and localization, balancing automation and human-in-the-loop processes. Continuously assess industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to refine the strategy.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, design, linguistics, data science, and content teams to deliver best-in-class multilingual experiences. Work closely with technology teams, learning and certification teams to ensure alignment across all localized content.
* Translations Center of Excellence Team: You will be managing a team of translations product managers or product owners to help execute on your roadmap. You will be providing guidance, reskill and upskill this team to make a step function change in the translation capabilities at PMI Inc.
* Technology & AI Integration: Leverage state-of-the-art NLP and AI-driven translation tools to enhance localization accuracy and efficiency. Identify and implement the right mix of automation, machine learning models, and human expertise to ensure high-quality translations. Deploy and maintain a mix of real time translation, machine translation and translation management system vendors.
* Scalability & Quality Assurance: Establish frameworks for testing translation quality, consistency, and cultural relevance at scale. Develop automated and manual quality checks, including linguistic validation and usability testing, to ensure localized content meets high standards.
* User Experience Optimization: Ensure that localization efforts maintain pedagogical integrity, cultural nuance, and accessibility compliance. Partner with UX researchers to gather feedback from diverse user groups and incorporate findings into localization strategies.
* Stakeholder Management: Work with internal teams, external vendors, and localization partners to align business goals with localization strategies. Develop and maintain strong relationships with translation vendors, ensuring high efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
* Data-Driven Decision Making: Define and track key metrics related to language coverage, translation accuracy, and user engagement to continuously improve the experience. Utilize A/B testing and performance analytics to measure the effectiveness of localization efforts.
* Process Optimization: Establish efficient workflows for translation, review, and deployment of localized content. Identify bottlenecks and implement automation tools to increase efficiency while maintaining quality.
* Compliance & Localization Standards: Ensure that all translations meet industry standards, legal compliance, and cultural sensitivities for global markets. Stay updated on regulations that impact content localization, including GDPR and accessibility guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience:
* 5+ years of product management experience, with at least 3+ years focused on localization, internationalization, or machine translation. Experience in the edtech industry is a strong plus.
* Strong understanding of NLP, AI-driven translation models, and localization workflows. Familiarity with large-scale language models and their applications in education technology is preferred.
* Experience with tools like DeepL, Lilt, Smartling, Phrase, XTM Cloud, Azure Speech AI, Amazon Translate or other high quality machine translation tools is required
* Proven ability to scale localization efforts in a B2C and B2B environment. Ability to balance cost, quality, and speed while maintaining a great user experience.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience leveraging A/B testing and data insights. Ability to translate complex data into actionable product decisions.
* Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders. Experience working with global teams and managing localization initiatives across multiple time zones.
* Deep knowledge of cultural sensitivities, linguistic nuances, and internationalization best practices. Ability to adapt content and features for diverse audiences while preserving intended meaning and learning outcomes.
* A track record of successfully leading initiatives that improve language accessibility and expand multilingual offerings. Passion for making education equitable and inclusive worldwide.
