BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Domestically, our 29 offices across the US ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, clothing and support to gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF VISTA WORK: The VISTA will gain exposure to the operations of a large international organization while practicing and applying Grant Management methods to maximize the reach of IRC programming in Florida.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with the Florida Development Team to review IRC Florida's donor prospecting strategy. Grow a database for opportunities identified and conduct ongoing research related to pre-award grant opportunities. Update grants calendar regularly. Attend grants webinars and information sessions. Draft grant proposals for the Development Team to review. Provide support as needed in other areas of identified projects.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The VISTA will:

  • Gain experience in grant management, which is a crucial skill to move up in the non-profit sector. Learn the pre-award process for building a funding portfolio in a non-profit.
  • Learn the basics of proposal development and play a key role in ensuring proactive responses to business development needs.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming.
  • Gain experience drafting and writing grants of aligned projects. VISTA will work out of the Tallahassee, Florida office.

MEMBER DUTIES:

  • Work with the Florida Development Team to review IRC Florida's donor prospecting strategy, expand a work plan for continued implementation of strategy and monitor the workflow of the Resource Development Team.
  • Grow and update a database for funding opportunities and conduct ongoing research related to pre-award grant opportunities.
  • Assist with preparing notifications of opportunities.
  • Attend grants webinars and information sessions to understand funding opportunities' requirements and prepare opportunity summaries.
  • Draft grant proposals following funder requirements.
  • Prepare Letters of Interest, Letters of Introduction and Expression of Interest documents to prospective donors and family sponsors.
  • Work with the Resource Development Team and Interns to raise the visibility and credibility of IRC Florida by providing information about IRC's client needs, IRC's programs, and opportunities to engage with IRC as a donor, partner, volunteer, or intern.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • College graduate or undergraduate in a related field of International
    Relations/Development, Social Work, Global Human resources, Learning and
    Development; Non-Profit Management, International Business, or other relevant fields.
  • Comfort with research, organizing content, and liaising with staff.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and
    ability to collaborate.
  • Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
  • English fluency is required.

This position begins May 5, 2025 and ends May 6, 2026. The VISTA will work in the Tallahassee office and will work remotely 1 day per week. This position will report to the Development Director.
